Ülo Tootsen
Ülo Tootsen (13 June 1933 – 12 March 2006) was an Estonian biologist, journalist, publisher, editor, translator, and politician. He was a member of IX Riigikogu, representing the Estonian Centre Party. Tootsen was born in Varstu Parish (now, part of Rõuge Parish). His brother was journalist, writer and politician Toivo Tootsen. He graduated from Tartu State University in 1957 with a degree in zoology. He then worked in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Estonian SSR in from 1957 until 1959 as a chief ichthyologist. From 1959 until 1961, he was the cultural editor of the daily newspaper ''Rahva Hääl''. From 1961 until 1991, he worked in the news editorial office of Eesti Televisioon and worked concurrently at Võru Raadio since 1985 and as a broadcaster for Eesti Raadio. Feodor Gladkov
Feodor Vasilyevich Gladkov (russian: Фёдор Васильевич Гладков) – December 20, 1958) was a Soviet and Russian socialist realist writer. Gladkov joined a Marxist group in 1904, and in 1905 went to Tiflis (now Tbilisi) and was arrested there for revolutionary activities. He was sentenced to three years' exile. He then moved to Novorossiysk. Among other positions, he served as the editor of the newspaper ''Krasnoye Chernomorye'', secretary of the journal ''Novy Mir'', special correspondent for ''Izvestia'', and director of the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow from 1945 to 1948. He received the Stalin Prize (in 1949) for his literary accomplishments, and is considered a classic writer of Soviet Socialist Realist literature. Ion Druță
Ion Druță (3 September 1928 – 28 September 2023), also known as Ion Drutse, was a Moldovan writer, poet, playwright and literary historian. He was an honorary member of the Romanian Academy. Biography Ion Druță was born on 3 September 1928 in the village of Horodiște in what was then Soroca County in the Kingdom of Romania (now in Dondușeni District, Republic of Moldova). He graduated from the Forestry School and the Higher Courses of the Institute of Literature "Maxim Gorki" of the Union of Soviet Writers. From 1969, he lived in Moscow, Russia. Druță's first short stories were published in the early 1950s. His works are considered to be part of the "gold fund" of contemporary national literature. Druță died in Moscow on 28 September 2023, at the age of 95. His ashes were burried under the Thanksgiving Candle, Soroca.
