Özlem Çarıkçıoğlu
Özlem Çarıkçıoğlu (born 11 January 1994) is a Turkish alpine skier, who competed at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. Personal life Özlem Çarıkçıoğlu was born in Sakarya, Turkey on 11 January 1994. After completing her high school education at Robert College, she studied Industrial Engineering at Koç University in Istanbul. Aside from skiing, Çarıkçıoğlu practices ballet. Sports career At the age of eight, Çarıkçıoğlu made acquaintance with skiing during a winter camp at Uludağ in Bursa held by her primary school. She is a member of the AKUT Search and Rescue Association, and competed for the AKUT sports Club's Snow Sports Branch. She competed at the 2011 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. She took part in the alpine skiing women's giant slalom and women's slalom events at the 2015 Winter Universiade held in the Sierra Nevada Ski Station, Canada. Sakarya Province
Sakarya ( tr, ) is a province in Turkey, located on the coast of Black Sea. The Sakarya River creates a webbing of estuaries in the province, which is in the Marmara Region. The adjacent provinces are Kocaeli to the west, Bilecik to the south, Bolu to the southeast and Düzce to the east. The capital of Sakarya is Adapazarı. Sierra Nevada Ski Station
The Sierra Nevada Ski Station is a ski resort in the Sierra Nevada in the province of Granada in southeastern Spain. The ski area is on the northwestern slopes of Veleta, the third highest peak in Peninsular Spain and the most southerly ski resort in Europe. The resort hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 1996 and occasionally hosts World Cup races, the last being the women's technical races in 2007. In recent years World Slope and Freestyle events have made a very successful appearance here. It was also host to the 2015 Winter Universiade, the world university games. Turkey competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, from 4 to 20 February 2022. The Turkish team consisted of seven athletes (four men and three women) competing in four sports. Furkan Akar and Ayşenur Duman were the country's flagbearer during the opening ceremony. Meanwhile a volunteer was the flagbearer during the closing ceremony. The women's slalom competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 9 February, " on Ice River" course at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District. Petra Vlhová of Slovakia won the event. This was the first Olympic medal for Vlhová and the first Olympic medal in alpine skiing for Slovakia.
