Övedskloster Manor
Övedskloster Manor ( sv, Övedskloster slott) is a manor in Sjöbo Municipality, Scania, in southern Sweden. History Early history Övedskloster derives its name ( sv, The monastery of Öved) from a Premonstratensian abbey, founded in the 12th century by the archbishop of Lund, Eskil of Lund, on the site of the present manor. Little is known about the abbey, and there are no visible remains. It was confiscated by the Danish Crown (as the province of Scania was a part of Denmark until the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658) during the Reformation and subsequently turned into a profitable estate, which changed owners several times during the 16th century. A fire sometime after 1594 probably ruined most of the monastic buildings, while others during this time were converted into barns and other outbuildings. Sjöbo Municipality
Sjöbo Municipality (''Sjöbo kommun'') is a municipality in Skåne County in southern Sweden. Its seat is located in the town Sjöbo. The present municipality was created in 1974 when the former market town (''köping'') ''Sjöbo'' was amalgamated with the surrounding rural municipalities. There are fifteen original entities within today's municipality. Geography The town of Sjöbo has flat terrain, with many small houses and three long straight streets stretching through it, leading to larger roads. The northwestern part of the municipality includes the main part of Vombsjön, the largest lake of southern Scania and notable for being the water source of Malmö. Alexander Roslin
Alexander Roslin (spelled Alexandre in French, ; 15 July 17185 July 1793) was a Swedish portrait painter who worked in Scania, Bayreuth, Paris, Italy, Warsaw and St. Petersburg, primarily for members of aristocratic families. He combined insightful psychological portrayal with a skillful representation of fabrics and jewels. His style combined Classicist tendencies with the lustrous, shimmering colours of Rococo, a jocular, elegant and ornate style. Per Krafft The Elder
Per Krafft the Elder (16 January 1724 – 7 November 1793) was a Swedish portraitist. He was the father of the artists Per Krafft the Younger and Wilhelmina Krafft. Early life Per Krafft was born in Arboga, and studied in Uppsala, where he in 1736 became interested in the arts. From 1739 he was for several years a student of portrait painter Johan Henrik Scheffel in Stockholm . His self-portrait from 1745 and a portrait of his sister Anna Lisa (married Askblom ) shows clear influences from Scheffel. In 1745 Krafft went to Copenhagen, where he came under Carl Gustaf Pilo's influence, as seen in the 1748 autographed portraits of Anna Bohr and a Miss Leijonhufvud as a shepherdess. Carl Gustaf Pilo
Carl Gustaf Pilo (5 March 1711 â€“ 2 March 1793) was a Swedish artist and painter. Pilo worked extensively in Denmark as a painter to the Danish Royal Court and as professor and director at the Royal Danish Academy of Art ( da, Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi), as well as in his native Sweden. His prolific output in Denmark consisted mainly of portraits of royalty and the nobility, but included also genre paintings in the Dutch style. Niclas Lafrensen
Niklas Lafrensen (30 October 1737 - 6 December 1807) was a Swedish genre and miniature painter. Active in Paris and Stockholm, Lafrensen is considered one of the chief European miniaturist of the second half of the 18th century. Niklas Lafrensen (known in French as Nicolas Lavreince) was the son of painter Niklas Lafrensen the Elder and Magdalena Stuur. His father was a skilled miniature portrait painter, popular at the Swedish court. Lafrensen received his earliest training from him. Johan Niclas Byström
Johan Niclas Byström (December 18, 1783 – 1848) was a Swedish sculptor. Byström was born at Filipstad and went to Stockholm at the age of twenty, studying there for three years under Johan Tobias Sergel. In 1809 he gained the prize of the Royal Academy of Arts, and in the following year visited Rome. He sent home a beautiful work, "The Reclining Bacchante," in half life size, which raised him at once to the first rank among Swedish sculptors. On his return to Stockholm in 1816, he presented the crown prince (the later king Charles XIV) with a colossal statue of himself, and was entrusted with several important works. Although he was appointed professor of sculpture at the academy, he soon returned to Italy, and with the exception of the years from 1838 to 1844 continued to reside there. He died in Rome in 1848. Georg Haupt (10 August 1741, in Stockholm – 18 September 1784, in Stockholm) was a Swedish cabinet maker. Haupt was the son of a Nuremberg carpenterFleming, John & Hugh Honour. A mansard or mansard roof (also called a French roof or curb roof) is a four-sided gambrel-style hip roof characterised by two slopes on each of its sides, with the lower slope, punctured by dormer windows, at a steeper angle than the upper.
