Ömerli, Mardin
Ömerli ( syr, ܡܥܨܪܬܗ, Maʿsarteh, ku, Mahsertê, ar, معسرتي) is a town and the seat of Ömerli District in Mardin Province in southeastern Turkey. It is located in the historical region of Tur Abdin. In the town, there was a church of Saint George ( tr, Mor Cercis Kilisesi). The church of Saint George was later converted into a mosque. The town had a population of 6,698 in 2021. Etymology The Syriac name of the town is derived from "ma'ṣartā" ("wine-press" in Syriac). Maʿsarteh is identified as the town of Madaranzu in Bit-Zamani, which was conquered by Ashurnasirpal II, King of Assyria, in 879 BC. It is later mentioned by Theophylact Simocatta and George of Cyprus as Matzaron ( el, Ματζάρων, la, Mazarorum). In 1960, Maʿsarteh was officially renamed Ömerli. Ömerli, Halfeti
Ömerli, formerly known as Amara, is a village in Halfeti, Şanlıurfa Province, southeastern Turkey. The population is estimated at 1,182. Many of the population have moved to Germany for employment. Kurdish is spoken widely in the village. It has a small primary school with nearby villages providing secondary or further education. The village was founded by the Paulicians. The village is the birthplace of Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), who was born there on April 4, 1949. Every year on his birthday thousands of Kurds celebrate his birthday. On April 4, 2009, a group of 3.000 Kurds was marching towards Amara to celebrate Öcalans 60th Birthday. Ömerli Dam
Ömerli Dam ( tr, Ömerli Barajı) is a rock-fill dam in Istanbul Province, Turkey. Ömerli Dam is located in Çekmeköy district of Istanbul Province. The rock-fill dam was built by the Turkish State Hydraulic Works on the Riva Creek to provide tap water for the city. Construction started in 1968, and the dam went in service in 1973. The volume of the earth mass used in the dam is . The dam has a thalweg height of . It forms the reservoir Lake Ömerli ( tr, Ömerli Gölü), which has a surface of and water capacity of . In 1999, a sanitation project was launched to protect the reservoir from waste water pollution. In the time span of the last twenty years after the construction of the dam, the surrounding area saw a rapid urbanization that brought the risk of pollution of the reservoir.
