The Measuring, Selection and Placement Center ( tr, Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, ÖSYM) is the body responsible for organizing the national level university entrance examination Student Selection and Placement System, and several other large scale examinations in Turkey. ÖSYM also operates the world's one and only government-operated dedicated large scale (5600 people at a time) computer-based test center. Student Selection And Placement System
Student Selection and Placement System ( tr, Öğrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Sistemi, ÖSYS) or Higher Education Foundations Examination ( tr, Yükseköğretim Kurumları Sınavı, YKS), formerly Higher Education Examination Undergraduate Placement Examination, ( tr, Yükseköğretime Geçis Sınavı-Lisans Yerleştirme Sınav, YGS-LYS), is a standardized test for the admission to higher education in Turkey administered by ÖSYM. Within the Turkish education system, the only way to enter a university is through this exam. 1,692,000 high school graduates took the exam in 2011 and 2,255,386 in 2016. It is a multiple choice exam (5 options). It has two parts as Core Proficiency Test-Advanced Proficiency Test ( tr, Temel Yeterlilik Testi-Alan Yeterlilik Testi, TYT-AYT). Foreign Language Knowledge Level Determination Exam
The Foreign Language Knowledge Level Determination Exam or YDS ( tr, Yabancı Dil Bilgisi Seviye Tespit Sınavı) is a foreign language proficiency test administered by ÖSYM in Turkey in order to evaluate the foreign-language skills, especially of governmental employees. While anyone can take it, it is mostly taken by civil servants, academics and military personnel. The state pays extra money to public servants and employees of state agencies depending on their score on the test, and also uses this test to appoint employees to the positions located out of the country. The test is administered every six months and is taken by more than 100,000 people. It can be taken electronically. Education In Turkey
Education in Turkey is governed by a national system which was established in accordance with the Atatürk's Reforms. It is a state-supervised system designed to produce a skillful professional class for the social and economic institutes of the nation. Compulsory education lasts 12 years. Primary and secondary education is financed by the state and free of charge in public schools, between the ages of 6 and 19. Secondary or high school education is not mandatory but required in order to then progress to universities. Turkey has over 200 universities as of 2022. ÖSYS, after which high school graduates are assigned to university according to their performance. Turkey has 97% of primary school enrollment among all eligible children as of 2019. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey ( tr, ), usually referred to simply as the TBMM or Parliament ( tr, or ''Parlamento''), is the unicameral Turkish legislature. It is the sole body given the legislative prerogatives by the Turkish Constitution. It was founded in Ankara on 23 April 1920 in the midst of the National Campaign.
