Óscar Figueroa (film Editor)
Óscar Figueroa (born June 26, 1958) is a Mexican film editor. Figueroa has been working in the Cinema of Mexico and Latin cinema since 1986 and has edited some 55 films in his career as of 2007. He has won and been nominated for several Ariel Awards and edited the acclaimed Mexican film ''El crimen del Padre Amaro'' in 2002. At the moment he is also Vocal of the Coordinating Committee of the Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences, A.C. Film Editor
Film editing is both a creative and a technical part of the post-production process of filmmaking. The term is derived from the traditional process of working with film which increasingly involves the use of digital technology. The film editor works with raw footage, selecting shots and combining them into sequences which create a finished motion picture. Film editing is described as an art or skill, the only art that is unique to cinema, separating filmmaking from other art forms that preceded it, although there are close parallels to the editing process in other art forms such as poetry and novel writing. Film editing is often referred to as the "invisible art" because when it is well-practiced, the viewer can become so engaged that they are not aware of the editor's work. Cinema Of Mexico
Mexican cinema dates to the late nineteenth century during the rule of President Porfirio Díaz. Seeing a demonstration of short films in 1896, Díaz immediately saw the importance of documenting his presidency in order to present an ideal image of it. With the outbreak of the Mexican Revolution in 1910, Mexican and foreign makers of silent films seized the opportunity to document its leaders and events. From 1915 onward, Mexican cinema focused on narrative film. During the Golden Age of Mexican cinema from 1936 to 1956, Mexico all but dominated the Latin American film industry. Ariel Awards
The Ariel Award ( es, Premio Ariel) is an award that recognizes the best of Mexican cinema. Given annually, since 1946, by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC), the award recognizes artistical and technical excellence in the Mexican film industry. The purpose of the Ariel recognition is to stimulate and increase the excellence of Mexican cinema, favor the growth of the industry, and promote the meeting and strengthening of the national film community. It is regarded as the most prestigious award in the Mexican film industry and considered Mexico's equivalent to the Oscars of the United States. ''The Crime of Padre Amaro'' ( es, El crimen del padre Amaro, known by its literal translation ''The Crime of Father Amaro'' in Australia) is a 2002 Mexican-Spanish film directed by Carlos Carrera. It is very loosely based on the novel ''O Crime do Padre Amaro'' (1875) by 19th-century Portuguese writer José Maria de Eça de Queiroz. The film starred Gael García Bernal, Ana Claudia Talancón and Sancho Gracia. It premiered on 16 August 2002 in Mexico City. When it was released, ''The Crime of Padre Amaro'' caused a controversy on the part of Roman Catholic groups in Mexico who tried to stop the film from being screened.
