' Byrne (also O'Byrne) is an Irish surname. It is derived from the Gaelic ''Ó Broin'' or ''Ó Beirn''. There are two Irish surnames which have Byrne as their English spelling; the most common comes from Ó Broin, which refers to the Leinster-based family of Bran as described below. The less common family name is Ó Beirn or Ó Beirne, which comes from a different family and is most commonly found in the Northwest of Ireland. Goidelic Languages
The Goidelic or Gaelic languages ( ga, teangacha Gaelacha; gd, cà nanan Goidhealach; gv, çhengaghyn Gaelgagh) form one of the two groups of Insular Celtic languages, the other being the Brittonic languages. Goidelic languages historically formed a dialect continuum stretching from Ireland through the Isle of Man to Scotland. There are three modern Goidelic languages: Irish ('), Scottish Gaelic ('), and Manx ('). Manx died out as a first language in the 20th century but has since been revived to some degree. Bryan Byrne (footballer)
Bryan Byrne (born 26 August 1982) is an Irish former professional footballer. He played in Europe and the United States. Early life and education Byrne was born on 26 August 1982, in Kilkenny, Ireland, and was raised in Castledermot. He started his career at local club Castle Villa A.F.C., where he played from U-10's through U-18's. Byrne was signed by Dermot Keely to play senior level soccer for Kildare County F.C. for the 2002–03 season. Byrne's stay was short, as Keely's son, Alan Keely, was returning from playing college soccer in Santa Barbara and Dermot recommended Byrne as a player to target. He appeared 7 total times for the club. Byrne moved to the USA and enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was a student-athlete for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's soccer team. Daniel Byrne (born 30 November 1984) is former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He played for Manchester United, Hartlepool United (on loan), Weymouth, Newcastle Town, Mossley, Flixton, Southport, Droylsden, Runcorn F.C. Damien Byrne
Damien Byrne (born 6 April 1954 in Dublin) is an Irish former professional football player. In a career spanning 20 seasons, Byrne won player of the year awards in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, the only man to do so. He started his career as a forward but midway through his career switched to centre back. His son Phil Byrne currently plays for Carrick Rangers in the IFA Premiership. Career Byrne played schoolboy football for Home Farm and made his League of Ireland debut on 12 October 1973 for that club against St Patrick's Athletic. He stayed only one season with Home Farm and in the summer of 1974 he signed for Dundalk, however by the end of November he had moved on to their County Louth rivals Drogheda United.
