The Étang du Méjean, the "pond of Méjean" (sometimes called ''Étang de Pérols'' in its eastern part) is part of the lagoon complex of the Palavas ponds (''Étangs palavasiens''). A lagoon is a shallow body of water separated from a larger body of water by a narrow landform, such as reefs, barrier islands, barrier peninsulas, or isthmuses. Lagoons are commonly divided into ''coastal lagoons'' (or ''barrier lagoons'') and ''atoll lagoons''. They have also been identified as occurring on mixed-sand and gravel coastlines. Palavas-les-Flots (; Languedocien dialect, Languedocien: ''Palavà s'') is a Communes of France, commune in the Hérault Departments of France, department in the Occitania (administrative region), Occitanie Regions of France, region in southern France. Geography Palavas is a seaside resort, some six km south of Montpellier, at the Gulf of Lion and the Mediterranean. It lies on a strip of sand dunes that separates two lakes, the ''Étang de l'Arnel'' and the ''Étang du Méjean'', from the sea. Lattes (; oc, Latas) is a commune in the Hérault département in the Occitanie region in southern France, located just on the outskirts of Montpellier. Canal Du Rhône à Sète
The Canal du Rhône à Sète (lit. "canal from the Rhône to Sète") is a canal in southern France, which connects the Étang de Thau in Sète to the Rhône River in Beaucaire, Gard. The canal is made up of two previously constructed canals, the Canal des Étangs and Canal de Beaucaire. It connects with the Canal du Midi through the Étang de Thau. There is, however, no access to the Rhône at Beaucaire as the lock has been closed since the Vallebregues barrage was built.
