École Rose-des-Vents (Nova Scotia)
École Rose-des-Vents is a Francophone school located in Greenwood, Nova Scotia operated by the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP). Origins of the building École Rose-des-Vents was originally built as an elementary school for children of Canadian Forces Base 14 Wing Greenwood personnel and was named Russell C. Gordon Elementary School. It was designed by the Toronto firm of Craig and Madill and was completed in 1962. Completed two years after Dwight Ross Elementary School (DRES), both schools were situated in the CFB Greenwood PMQ neighbourhood Clements Park. Both schools, along with A.V.M. Morfee Elementary, which opened in 1949, and École francophone, which opened in 1976, exclusively served children of military personnel until 1988. Greenwood is a village located in the western part of Kings County, Nova Scotia, Kings County in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. History Greenwood was a small hamlet south of the Dominion Atlantic Railway's Kingston, Nova Scotia, Kingston Station. In 1942, the Royal Air Force established RAF Station Greenwood and built an aerodrome on nearby farmland to provide a facility for training aircrew under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The Annapolis Valley is a valley and region in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It is located in the western part of the Nova Scotia peninsula, formed by a trough between two parallel mountain ranges along the shore of the Bay of Fundy. Thibault Jacquot-Paratte
Thibault Jacquot-Paratte is an Acadian writer and musician, born in Kentville, Nova Scotia, of Franco-Swiss parentage. He writes both in French and English. Biography Raised in the minority Francophone community of the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Thibault Jacquot-Paratte started performing songs and reading publicly as a teenager. During that time, he was also active with different local organizations, among which the provincial youth council (Conseil Jeunesse Provincial), which in 2010 invited him as their official poet during the annual assembly of the Acadian Federation of Nova Scotia. Judy Streatch
Judy Streatch (born October 6, 1966) is a Canadian politician, who was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Chester-St. Margaret's in Nova Scotia from 2005 to 2009. A schoolteacher by career, Streatch was educated at Saint Mary's University, the Nova Scotia Teachers College, and the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. Streatch was first elected in a by-election held on June 21, 2005 for the seat vacated by the late John Chataway upon his death. She was subsequently re-elected in the June 2006 provincial election. Streatch served as co-chair of the 2006 Leadership Convention. Chéticamp (; ) is an unincorporated place on the Cabot Trail on the west coast of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a local service centre. A majority of the population are Acadians. Together with its smaller neighbour, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, Nova Scotia, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, Chéticamp makes up the largest Francophone enclave on Cape Breton Island. Isle Madame (Nova Scotia)
Isle Madame is an island off southeastern Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. It is part of the Municipality of the County of Richmond. Once part of the French colony of Île-Royale, it may have been named for Françoise d'Aubigné, marquise de Maintenon. After the fall of Louisbourg in 1758, 4,000 inhabitants were deported. However, a group of 10 Acadian families from Port Toulouse fled to this Isle Madame where their descendants still live today. It is separated from Cape Breton Island by the Lennox Passage, but connected by a causeway. The island is also connected by bridge to Petit-de-Grat Island, and by causeway and bridge to Janvrin Island.
