Échenevex
Échenevex () is a commune in the Ain department in eastern France. Geography Échenevex is located between the Jura mountains and the Lake Geneva region. It is situated on the slopes of the Jura mountains, just 3 km south of Gex. The Large Hadron Collider passes under Échenevex, about 100 m below the surface. Echenevex consists partly of the Jura mountains natural park area and is approximately 8 minutes from the Crozet Telecabine ski station, and 15 minutes from Geneva International Airport. Allondon
The Allondon () is a river in France (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region) and Switzerland (canton of Geneva). It is long, of which 6.1 km in Switzerland and 2.5 km on the French–Swiss border. Its source is located at elevation in the commune of Échenevex in the Ain department in eastern France. It flows into the Rhône at the village of Russin in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland. Its catchment area is , of which 137 km2 in France. It is home to the only recently known population of the rare insect ''Lachesilla rossica''. Gex, Ain
Gex (; frp, Gèx; it, Gesio) is a commune in the Ain department in eastern France and a subprefecture of the department. It lies from the Swiss border and from Geneva. It is a subprefecture of Ain. History The town gave its name to the ''Pays de Gex'', at various times under the jurisdiction of France, Switzerland and the Duchy of Savoy. The future site of Gex was inhabited around 1800 BC. Around 220 BC, a group of Gallic warriors known as the Gaesatae reside in the area around Gex. Afterwards, the town was part of Roman Gaul. In 1252, Léonette of Geneva, Lady of Gex, descendant of the count of Geneva, Amadeus I, married Simon of Joinville, son of Simon of Joinville and Beatrix of Auxonne, Lady of Marnay. The city of Gex was included in her dowry. Later that century, the Joinvilles set up a castellan and a judge in the town. Large Hadron Collider
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and highest-energy particle collider. It was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) between 1998 and 2008 in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and hundreds of universities and laboratories, as well as more than 100 countries. It lies in a tunnel in circumference and as deep as beneath the France–Switzerland border near Geneva.
