''Çoban Yıldızı'' is an instrumental Turkish melody composed by Melih Kibar in 1975. In 1975, TRT, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation ordered a jingle for the coming Eurovision Song contest national finals. (see Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 1975). Melih Kibar then working with Timur Selçuk composed the melody and named it Çoban Yıldızı. Melih Kibar (6 September 1951 – 7 April 2005) was a Turkish composer. Biography Born in Istanbul, he graduated from the German High School Istanbul and studied chemical engineering at Boğaziçi University. He received a Master's degree from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. Turkish Radio And Television Corporation
The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT; Turkish : ) is the national public broadcaster of Turkey, founded in 1964. TRT was for many years the only television and radio provider in Turkey. Before the introduction of commercial radio in 1990, and subsequently commercial television in 1992, it held a monopoly on broadcasting. More recent deregulation of the Turkish television broadcasting market produced analogue cable television. Today, TRT broadcasts around the world, especially in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Turkey took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 1975. The country was represented by Semiha Yankı with the song "Seninle Bir Dakika" written by Hikmet Münir Ebcioğlu and composed by Kemal Ebcioğlu. It came last in the Eurovision 1975. Before Eurovision ''Şarkı Yarışması'' The Turkish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1975 was chosen during a national final called ''Şarkı Yarışması''. Competing entries 105 songs were submitted to TRT and 17 were shortlisted by a selection committee for the national final. In early 1975, "Boşver" performed by Nilüfer withdrew from the selection due to plagiarism claims. Timur Selçuk
Timur Selçuk (2 July 1946 – 6 November 2020) was a Turkish composer, pianist, singer and conductor. Biography One of the greatest Turkish composers, Timur Selçuk was the son of Turkish neo-classical music composer Münir Nurettin Selçuk and actress Şehime Erton. His great-uncle was the Ottoman Grand Vizier Abdurrahman Nurettin Pasha. His younger brother is jazz drummer and composer Selim Selçuk. His older sister was Meral Selçuk who sang with her father in his concerts. Timur Selçuk started playing piano at the age of 5 and gave his first concert at age 7. He completed his high school education at Galatasaray High School and at Istanbul Municipal Conservatory.
