Älmhults IF is a Swedish football club located in Älmhult in Kronoberg County. Background Älmhults Idrottsförening was founded on 22 April 1919. The sports club has provided for bandy, ice-hockey, skiing and track and field as well as football. The club has used Älmevallen playing field since 1929. The youth teams use Haganässkolan. Since their foundation, Älmhults IF have participated mainly in the middle divisions of the Swedish football league system. The club currently plays in Division 3 Sydvästra Götaland, which is the fifth tier of Swedish football. They play their home matches at the Älmevallen in Älmhult. Älmhult () is a locality and the seat of Älmhult Municipality in Kronoberg County, Sweden with 8,955 inhabitants in 2010. It was in Älmhult that the first IKEA (the Swedish furniture company) store was built. IKEA continues to have a large corporate presence there. A museum of IKEA's history, the IKEA Museum, opened in the town on 30 June 2016. It was constructed to present the history of IKEA. Swedish Division 3
Division 3 is the fifth level in the league system of Swedish football and comprises 144 Swedish football teams. Division 3 had status as the official third level from 1928 to 1986, but was replaced by Division 2 in 1987. It then had status as the official fourth level until 2005, but was replaced once again as Division 1 was recreated in 2006. The competition There are 144 clubs in Division 3, divided in 12 groups of 12 teams each representing a geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 22 games.
