ﾃ］gel Luis Sﾃ｡nchez (born September 20, 1983) is a Puerto Rico, Puerto Rican coach in Minor League Baseball, and a former professional baseball shortstop who played in Major League Baseball for the Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox. Playing career At the age of 15, Sﾃ｡nchez was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 12th round (356th overall) of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft. He did not sign with the Marlins and was later taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 11th round (325th overall) of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft. Kansas City Royals Sﾃ｡nchez began his professional career playing for the Gulf Coast Royals in 2001 and 2002. For another two years from 2003 to 2004, he played for the Class A (baseball), Class A Burlington Bees. In a breakout 2005 season, playing for the Class A-Advanced High Desert Mavericks, he Batting average (baseball), batted .313 with 5 home runs in 133 games. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. More hit balls go to the shortstop than to any other position, as there are more right-handed hitters in baseball than left-handed hitters, and most hitters have a tendency to pull the ball slightly.
