Ángel Navarro
Ángel Navarro (1748–1808) was a leading early Spanish settler and patriarch of San Antonio, Texas. The Navarro family played a prominent role in the Mexican and Texas revolutions. He was born in Corsica in 1748 and settled in Spanish Texas in 1769. Navarro was the seventy-second alcalde (mayor) of San Antonio under Spanish Texas. He was the father of Texas statesman José Antonio Navarro, San Antonio alcalde José Ángel Navarro (elder), and the grandfather of Texas state legislator José Ángel Navarro III. Ángel Navarro's daughter María Josefa Navarro married Juan Martín de Veramendi, the Governor of Coahuila y Tejas from 1832 to 1833. This couple's eldest daughter, Maria Ursula de Veramendi, was the wife of Texas revolutionary Jim Bowie. According to census records, Navarro was an active participant in the slave trade. Tejano Slave Owners
Tejanos (, ; singular: ''Tejano/a''; Spanish for "Texan", originally borrowed from the Caddo ''tayshas'') are the residents of the state of Texas who are culturally descended from the Mexican population of Tejas and Coahuila that lived in the region prior to it becoming what is now known as the state of Texas before it became a U.S. state in 1845. The term is also sometimes applied to all Texans of Mexican descent. Domingo Cabello y Robles (1725 -?) was a Spanish military officer who served as the governor of Nicaragua (1764–1776), Texas (1778 and 1786) and Cuba (1789–1790). His legislation in Texas was widely criticized. Early years Domingo Cabello y Robles was born in León, Spain, around 1725. As a youth, he joined the Royal Spanish Army of Leon, where he became an officer. In 1741, he joined an infantry regiment, serving as Lieutenant. In 1742, he traveled to Santiago de Cuba, and the flotilla was attacked by a warship of English origin. He returned to Spain in 1749. However, shortly after, the King appointed him Mayor and sent him back to Cuba, where he served as commander of "a fixed regiment of four battalions", which belonged to the garrison of Cuba and to the presidios of Florida. Jim Bowie
James Bowie ( ) ( – March 6, 1836) was a 19th-century American pioneer, slave smuggler and trader, and soldier who played a prominent role in the Texas Revolution. He was among the Americans who died at the Battle of the Alamo. Stories of him as a fighter and frontiersman, both real and fictitious, have made him a legendary figure in Texas history and a folk hero of American culture. Bowie was born in Kentucky. He spent most of his life in Louisiana, where he was raised and where he later worked as a land speculator. His rise to fame began in 1827 on reports of the Sandbar Fight near present-day Vidalia, Louisiana. What began as a duel between two other men deteriorated into a mêlée in which Bowie, having been shot and stabbed, killed the sheriff of Rapides Parish with a large knife.
