Álvaro Magaña
Álvaro Alfredo Magaña Borja (October 8, 1925 – July 10, 2001) was a Salvadoran lawyer, economist and politician who was the President of El Salvador, president of El Salvador from 1982 to 1984. Biography He was born in Ahuachapán, El Salvador, and received his master's degree from the University of Chicago in 1952. He was president of the largest mortgage bank of El Salvador (Banco Hipotecario) before the 1982 Salvadoran legislative election, 1982 election. He was sworn in by the President of the Constituent Assembly Roberto D'Aubuisson. His inauguration as president on May 2, 1982, marked the beginning of elected government in El Salvador after the junta of 1979–1982. The president of El Salvador ( es, Presidente de El Salvador), officially known as the President of the Republic of El Salvador ( es, Presidente de la República de El Salvador), is the Head of State, head of state and Head of Government, head of government of El Salvador. The Christian Democratic Party ( es, Partido Demócrata Cristiano, links=no) is a Christian democratic party in El Salvador. After being officially disbanded by the Supreme Court in 2011, it continued to work under the name of Party of Hope ( es, Partido de la Esperanza), before re-taking its original name in 2012. In the legislative elections, held on 16 March 2003, the party won 7.3% of the popular vote and 5 out of 84 seats in the Legislative Assembly. In the presidential election of 21 March 2004, the PDC supported Héctor Silva Argüello of the United Democratic Centre, who won 3% of the vote. Roberto D'Aubuisson Arrieta (23 August 1943 – 20 February 1992) was a Neo-fascism, neo-fascist Salvadoran soldier, politician and Death squads in El Salvador, death squad leader. In 1981, he co-founded and became the first leader of the Far-right politics, far-right Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) and served as President of El Salvador's Constitution of El Salvador, Constituent Assembly from 1982 to 1983. He was a candidate for 1984 Salvadoran presidential election, President in 1984, losing in the second round to former President of the Junta José Napoleón Duarte.
