The Congress of the Republic ( es, Congreso de la República) is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of Guatemala. The Guatemalan Congress is made up of 160 deputies who are elected by direct universal suffrage to serve four-year terms. The electoral system is closed party list proportional representation. 31 of the deputies are elected on a nationwide list, whilst the remaining 127 deputies are elected in 22 multi-member constituencies. Each of Guatemalas's 22 departments serves as a district, with the exception of the department of Guatemala containing the capital, which on account of its size is divided into two ''(distrito central'' and ''distrito Guatemala)''. Patricia Escobar de Arzú, (born October 3, 1953) also known as Patricia de Arzú, is a El Salvador, Salvadoran-Guatemalan entrepreneur and politician. She is the widow of Former President of Guatemala and mayor of Guatemala City Álvaro Arzú Irigoyen, having served as First Lady of Guatemala from January 14, 1996 to January 14, 2000 and as First Lady of Guatemala City from 1991 to 1996, and again from 2004 until his death in 2018. Óscar Stuardo Chinchilla Guzmán (born 21 October 1969) is a Guatemalan politician. He was President of the Congress of Guatemala between 14 January 2017 and 14 January 2018. Chinchilla is a member and one of the founders of Commitment, Renewal and Order. He was elected to the Congress of Guatemala in the 2011 election and the 2015 election. He serves for the District of Guatemala. In the 2012 legislative year he was third vice-president. Chinchilla obtained a degree in engineering from the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. Álvaro Enrique Arzú Yrigoyen (; 14 March 1946 – 27 April 2018) was a Guatemalan politician and businessman who served as the 32nd President of Guatemala from 14 January 1996 until 14 January 2000. He was elected Mayor of Guatemala City on six occasions: in 1982, when he declined taking office because of a coup d'état; in 1986; in 2003, after serving as president; in 2007; in 2011, and in 2015, for a term that would see him die in office.
