Whizzer is the name of several fictional characters appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Byron White
Byron "Whizzer" Raymond White (June 8, 1917 April 15, 2002) was an American professional football player and jurist who served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1962 until his retirement in 1993. Born and raised in Colorado, White played college football, basketball, and baseball for the University of Colorado, finishing as a consensus All-American and the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1937. He was the fourth overall selection of the 1938 NFL Draft—taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates—and led the National Football League in rushing yards in his rookie season. White spent a year at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar before his admission to Yale Law School in 1939, during which period he played for the Detroit Lions in the 1940 and 1941 seasons while still attending law school. Whizzer (roller Coaster)
Whizzer, originally Willard's Whizzer, is an Anton Schwarzkopf Speedracer roller coaster located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. It was one of two identical roller coasters built for the Marriott Corporation for each of their “Great America” parks at their debut in 1976, with an identical version of the Whizzer at California's Great America. Marriott continued to operate both parks until selling them in 1984. Manufactured by Anton Schwarzkopf of Germany, the two rides were the last “Speedracer” models ever built. The California Whizzer was dismantled in 1988 while the Illinois Whizzer remains in operation, as one of only two Speedracers still in existence worldwide (the other operating as Broca (formerly known as Zambezi Zinger) at Parque Nacional Del Café in Montenegro, Colombia). Overhook
In wrestling, an overhook, also incorrectly called a wizard (a whizzer is when the opponent's armpit and shoulder are lifted with an overhook hold, usually done against leg takedown attacks), is a clinch hold that is used to control the opponent. The Hamilton Whizzers were a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey Association for one season in 1942-1943. Whizzer bicycle engines are a line of bicycle engines that were produced in the United States from 1939 to 1965. They were commonly sold as kits to be assembled and attached to a consumer's bicycle thus creating a motorized bicycle. Whizzer U.S.A. re-appeared in 1997 to sell an improved version, pre-assembled on an old Schwinn-style bicycle frame. History The Whizzer bicycle engine was first produced in 1939 by Breene-Taylor Engineering, a Los Angeles-based manufacturer of airplane parts. ''Whizzer and Chips'' was a British comics magazine that ran from 18 October 1969 to 27 October 1990, when it merged with the comic '' Buster''. As with most comics of the time, ''Whizzer and Chips'' was dated one week ahead of the day it actually appeared on newsstands in Great Britain. It had no relation to the earlier British comic ''Illustrated Chips'' (which ran from 1890 to 1953). Wilford Parley "Whizzer" White (September 26, 1928 – August 1, 2013) was an American football halfback in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears. He also was a member of the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the third round of the 1951 NFL Draft. He played college football at Arizona State University and became the school's first College Football All-American. Early life White was born in Mesa, Arizona. He attended Mesa High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete and a stand-out in track and field. In football, he received first-team All-State honors as a junior and senior.
