Canasta
Canasta (; Spanish for "basket") is a card game of the rummy family of games believed to be a variant of 500 Rum. Although many variations exist for two, three, five or six players, it is most commonly played by four in two partnerships with two standard decks of cards. Players attempt to make melds of seven cards of the same rank and "go out" by playing all cards in their hands. It is "the most recent card game to have achieved worldwide status as a classic". History The game of Canasta was devised by attorney Segundo Sanchez Santos and his Bridge partner, architect Alberto Serrato in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1939,American Heritage Dictionar''Spanish Word Histories and Mysteries: English Words That Come from Spanish'' Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (2007), in an attempt to design a time-efficient game that was as engaging as Bridge. They tried different formulas before inviting Arturo Gomez Hartley and Ricardo Sanguinetti to test their game. After a positive reception of Canasta at ...

Deuce (playing Card)
The Deuce (german: Daus, plural: ''Däuser'') is the playing card with the highest value in German card games. It may have derived its name from dice games in which the face of the die with two pips is also called a ''Daus'' in German.''Games played with German suited cards''
at www.pagat.com. Retrieved 26 May 2018.
Unlike the , with which it may be confused, the ''Deuce'' represents the 2, which is why two hearts, bells, etc. are depicted on the card. In many regions it is not only equated to the Ace, but is also, incorrectly, called an Ace. In the south German area it has been historically called the Sow (''Sau'') and still is today, because of the appearance of a

Tarocchini
Tarocchini (plural for ''tarocchino'') are point trick-taking tarot card games popular in Bologna, capital city of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy and has been confined mostly to this area. They are the diminutive form of ''tarocchi'' (plural for ''tarocco''), referring to the reduction of the Bolognese pack from 78 to 62 cards, which probably occurred in the early 16th century. The games of Tarocchini are very complex, yet the rules have changed little over the years. Deck description Tarocchini can be played with a 78-card Tarot deck (where the 2–5 pip cards in each suit have been removed), though normally, a special Tarot deck, the Tarocco Bolognese is used. The trump cards have a unique ordering where the second to fifth trumps are known collectively as the ''Moretti'' (Moors) and are of equal rank (the last one played is the highest, in regards to taking a trick). In the Tarocco Bolognese, these cards are depicted with four Moors, two of which are identical. The F ...

Mus (card Game)
Mus is a card game widely played in Spain, France and Hispanic America. Originated in the Basque Country, it is a vying game. The first reference to this game goes back to 1745, when Manuel Larramendi, philologist and Jesuit Basque, quoted it the trilingual dictionary (Basque-Spanish-Latin). In Spain it is the most played card game, spawning several Mus clubs or "''peñas''" and becoming a staple game among college students. It is not uncommon to hear the Basque terms, such as "''órdago''" (from Basque "''hor dago''", "there it is") used by Spanish speakers, often without them being aware of the literal meanings of the terms and phrases. The origin of the word Mus is uncertain. It could come from the Basque language, where "''musu''" means "''kiss''", the established signal of the better possible card combination (3 Kings and one Ace). Larramendi wrote about the word mus or "musu" meaning lips or face and suggests that the name of the game could have derived from the facial g ...

Reversis
Reversis, or more rarely, Réversi, is a very old trick-taking card game of the Hearts group whose origin is supposed to be Italian, transformed into Spain and then in France. It is considered one of the two probable ancestors of Hearts, Black Lady and Black Maria, the other being ''Coquimbert'' or ''Coquinbert''. It was very popular with the French aristocracy in the 17th and 18th centuries, and much played elsewhere, except in Britain. Initially quite simple, the game eventually developed into an elaborate affair involving vast quantities of counters and a complex system of pools and side-payments. Its name may have possibly come from the reverse order and construction of the game itself, or even from its exceptional slam which, like "shooting the moon" in Black Lady, reverses the entire aim of the game. History The game of Reversis was first mentioned in France in 1601, under the name Reversin, played with a 52-card pack and is the subject of a poem written around 1611 by Ant ...

Weli
The ''Weli'', formerly ''Welli'', is a playing card used in the Salzburg and William Tell card decks, which are Austrian regional patterns of the German-suited playing cards. It has the value of 6 of Bells and, in the South Tyrol variant of the card game, Watten, it is the only 6 used and can, in addition to its own suit of Bells, join the trump suits of Acorns, Hearts and Leaves. In all other variants of Watten, the 7 of Bells is the ''Weli''. History The ''Weli'' is also often called the ''Welli'' or ''Belli'' and, dialectically, the ''Wöli'', ''Wöüli'', ''Bölle'' or ''Belle''. The name ''Weli'' probably comes from the Italian word ''belli'', which means "bells". Historically the ''Weli'' is first recorded in the early 1850s, when a Bozen card manufacturer inscribed ''WELLI'' onto the six of bells. As early as 1855, the ''Weli'' was integrated in the Salzburg pattern as the 6 of Bells. The gravestone appearing in many depictions is probably the grave of the Apostle Pau ...
