Wanyūdō
Wanyūdō ( ja, 輪入道, links=no, literally "wheel (輪) monk (入道)"), also known as "Firewheel" or "Soultaker", is a yōkai depicted in Toriyama Sekien's collection of yōkai illustrations, Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki. He is a relatively well-known yōkai; the earliest reports of him date back to the Heian period. Description Wanyūdō takes the form of a burning oxcart wheel bearing the tormented face of a man. Various folklore purports him as the condemned soul of a tyrannical ''daimyō'' who, in life, was known for having his victims drawn on the back of an oxcart. He is said to guard the gates of Hell, and to wander back and forth along the road between this world and the underworld, scaring townsfolk as he passes and stealing the souls of anyone who gets too close in order to bring them to Hell with him. Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki
is the second book of Japanese artist Toriyama Sekien's famous ''Gazu Hyakki Yagyō'' tetralogy, published c. 1779. A version of the tetralogy translated and annotated in English was published in 2016. These books are supernatural bestiaries, collections of ghosts, spirits, spooks, and monsters, many of which Toriyama based on literature, folklore, other artwork. These works have had a profound influence on subsequent ''yōkai'' imagery in Japan. ''Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki'' is preceded in the series by ''Gazu Hyakki Yagyō'', and succeeded by ''Konjaku Hyakki Shūi'' and ''Gazu Hyakki Tsurezure Bukuro''. Ixion
In Greek mythology, Ixion ( ; el, Ἰξίων, ''gen''.: Ἰξίονος means 'strong native') was king of the Lapiths, the most ancient tribe of Thessaly. Family Ixion was the son of Ares, or Leonteus, or Antion and Perimele, or the notorious evildoer Phlegyas, whose name connotes "fiery". Peirithoös was his son (or stepson, if Zeus were his father, as Zeus claims to Hera in ''Iliad'' 14). Background Ixion married Dia, a daughter of Deioneus (or Eioneus), and promised his father-in-law a valuable present.
