Veguer
Catalonia is internally divided into eight regional divisions, known in Catalan as ( singular ''vegueria'', ), following the regional plan of Catalonia. Each vegueria is further divided into ''comarques'' and municipalities, with the exception of the Aran Valley, considered a "unique territorial entity". The vegueries system is based on the feudal administrative territorial jurisdiction of the Principality of Catalonia, which was abolished with the Nueva Planta decrees of 1716. The current division was established by the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia of 2006 with two functions: an inter-municipal government and the arrangement of the services from the Generalitat de Catalunya. Principality Of Catalonia
The Principality of Catalonia ( ca, Principat de Catalunya, la, Principatus Cathaloniæ, oc, Principat de Catalonha, es, Principado de Cataluña) was a Middle Ages, medieval and early modern state (polity), state in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula. During most of its history it was in dynastic union with the Kingdom of Aragon, constituting together the Crown of Aragon. Camp de Tarragona () is a natural and historical region of Catalonia, Spain. It includes a central plain, surrounded by the Serralada Prelitoral mountain chain on the west and in the north, with the Mediterranean sand beaches of the Costa Daurada on the east and limited in the south by the Coll de Balaguer. The main towns are Tarragona, Reus, Valls and Cambrils. Salou is an important resort destination. Penedès (division)
Penedès is one of the eight regions (Vegueria, ''vegueries'') defined by the Regional Plan of Catalonia. Located in south of Catalonia, it includes the Comarques of Catalonia, comarques from historical Penedès region (Alt Penedès, Baix Penedès and Garraf), along with the southern municipalities of Anoia. It had 497.764 inhabitants as of 2022. It was approved as a region in February 2017. Its ''de facto'' capital is Vilanova i la Geltrú, the most populous city, as a law has not set one yet. Vilanova i la Geltrú () is the capital city of Garraf ''comarca'', in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Historically a fishing port, the city has a growing population of approximately 66,000, and is situated 40 km south-west of Barcelona, with the more famous coastal resort of Sitges some 10 km to the north-east.
