Jan Van Aartsen
Johannes "Jan" van Aartsen (15 September 1909 – 3 February 1992) was a Dutch politician of the defunct Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP) now merged into the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party and jurist. Van Aartsen applied at the Free University Amsterdam in June 1931 majoring in law and obtaining an Bachelor of Laws degree before graduating with a Master of Laws degree in July 1936. Van Aartsen worked as a lawyer in The Hague from August 1936 until October 1944. On 10 May 1940 Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands and the government fled to London to escape the German occupation. During World War II Van Aartsen continued to work as a lawyer. Van Aartsen worked as a trade association executive for the Christian Employers' association (NCW) from October 1944 until September 1949 and served as General-Secretary from July 1947 until September 1949. Jozias Johannes van Aartsen (. born 25 December 1947) is a retired Dutch politician who served as Leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy from 2004 to 2006. A native of The Hague, he attended the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet from April 1960 until May 1968 and applied at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in June 1968 majoring in Law and obtaining an Bachelor of Laws degree in July 1970. Van Aartsen served as Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Fisheries (1994–1998) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1998–2002) under Prime Minister Wim Kok, as well as Mayor of The Hague from 2008 until 2017. Stefan Remco Aartsen (born 13 March 1975 in 's-Gravenzande) is a former butterfly swimmer from the Netherlands, who twice competed for his native country at the Summer Olympics: in 1996 and 2000. Aartsen first gained attention in 1992, when he won the title in the 200 m freestyle at the European Junior Championships in Leeds. In 1998 he was a member of the Dutch winning relay team (4×50 m freestyle) at the European Short Course Swimming Championships 1998 in Sheffield. A year later he won the gold medal in the 4×100 m medley relay at the European LC Championships 1999 in Istanbul, Turkey, alongside Klaas-Erik Zwering, Marcel Wouda and Pieter van den Hoogenband.
