The сivic movement "Vidsich" ( uk, Відсіч, ''Rebuff'', Russian language, Russian: Bидсич) is an active Ukraine, Ukrainian nonviolent social movement created in 2010 as a reaction to the policies of then President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich, Victor Yanukovych and his "Russophilia, pro-Russian" tendencies connected with his administration. During his administration, ''Vidsich'' focused on protesting against Yanukovych’s increasing authoritarianism as well as the policies his government enacted. During Euromaidan, ''Vidsich'' became one of the movement’s leading groups. Pora! ( uk, Пора!, Russian: Пора!), meaning “''It's time!”'' in both Ukrainian and Russian, is a civic youth organization (Black Pora!) and political party in Ukraine ( Yellow Pora!) espousing nonviolent resistance and advocating increased national democracy. The group was established in 2004 (as only a civic youth organization) to coordinate young people's opposition to the Kuchma government in opposition to what they claimed was the authoritarian governing style of Ukraine's president Leonid Kuchma. Legislation On Languages In Ukraine
Language policy in Ukraine is based on its Constitution, international treaties and on domestic legislation. According to article 10 of the Constitution, Ukrainian is the official language of Ukraine, and the state shall ensure the comprehensive development and functioning of the Ukrainian language in all spheres of social life throughout the entire territory of the country. Other languages spoken in Ukraine are granted constitutional protection, and Russian is recognized as the language of a national minority. The 2012 law granted regional language status to Russian and other minority languages. 2011–2013 Russian Protests
The 2011–2013 Russian protests, which some English language media referred to as the Snow Revolution, began in 2011 (as protests against the 2011 Russian legislative election results) and continued into 2012 and 2013. The protests were motivated by claims by Russian and foreign journalists, political activists and members of the public that the election process was fraudulent. The Central Election Commission of Russia stated that only 11.5% of official reports of fraud could be confirmed as true. On 10 December 2011, after a week of small-scale demonstrations, Russia saw some of the biggest protests in Moscow since the 1990s. The focus of the protests have been the ruling party, United Russia, and its leader Vladimir Putin, the current president, previous prime minister, and previous two-term president, who announced his intention to run again for President in 2012.
