Uplands Academy
Uplands Academy (formerly Uplands Community College) is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Wadhurst, East Sussex, England. History It is rumoured that the school was built on the grounds of a large family house called Uplands. Uplands was purchased by Taverner Barrington Miller for about £5000 in about 1918. The house was requisitioned by the army during World War II and was demolished shortly afterwards. The school as it is now was built during the mid 20th century and has been developed greatly over the years. The college has a block-based architecture and layout. The oldest of these blocks houses the main hall, staff room, school offices and classrooms for general use. Uplands, Greater Victoria
Uplands, Victoria (known locally as "the Uplands") is a neighbourhood located in the north east part of the District of Oak Bay, a suburb adjacent to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and situated between the neighbourhoods of Cadboro Bay and North Oak Bay. Uplands is a prominent example of a garden suburb designed in the early part of the 20th century. In 1907, the developers of Uplands, John A, Robert and Dawson Turner previously cattle and horse ranchers from Turner Valley Alberta and originally Scotland purchased the area for the sum of $275,000 and hired the leading landscape architect John Olmsted as the designer. Olmsted designed famous neighbourhoods and parks in North America. Uplands is name of an electoral ward coterminous with the community of Uplands, in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, UK. Uplands ( cy, Pantygwydr) is a suburb and community of Swansea, Wales. It lies about a mile (2 km) to the west of Swansea city centre, and falls within the Uplands electoral ward. It is centred on the A4118 road, which links Swansea city centre and Sketty. The main road begins as Walter Road from the east, and becomes Sketty Road towards the west. Much of the area is hilly. The population of the community and ward in 2011 was 15,665 and in terms of Welsh identity had the lowest percentage in the county. Uplands Park
Uplands Park is located within the municipality of Oak Bay, in the Uplands neighborhood, adjacent to the city of Victoria, British Columbia. Uplands Park consists of of woodland trails and undeveloped natural reserve land, and includes Cattle Point with two well used boat ramps for trailerable boats, as well as the Oak Bay Cenotaph which honours the 97 Oak Bay men and women who died in World War Two. From 1860 to 1910, cattle were pushed overboard from paddle steamers to swim ashore to what is now Cattle Point, which is where the name Cattle Point comes from. It is among North America's first natural preserves to be set aside in an urban region; it was established in the 1940s by the Oak Bay city council, under the leadership of Reeve Walter Walker. Desert Uplands
The Desert Uplands is an interim Australian bioregion located in north and central western Queensland which straddles the Great Dividing Range between Blackall and Pentland. Geography The bioregion contains Lake Galilee, Lake Dunn and Lake Buchanan. The climate is semi-arid with highly variable rainfall. Much of the area is used for cattle grazing and is part of the Great Artesian Basin, lying within both the Galilee and Eromanga Basins. The Brigalow Belt North and Brigalow Belt South are to the east of the bioregion, and the Einasleigh Uplands are located to the north. CFB Uplands
Canadian Forces Base Uplands (also CFB Uplands) was a Canadian Forces Base located in Ottawa, Ontario. Most of the land which formed the base was transferred to the Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport after the base was closed in the 1990s. Several military units continue to exist at the former base and the Canadian Forces continues to maintain military housing at the site. The former base is now known formally as "Canadian Forces Support Unit (Ottawa) - Uplands Site." History The Royal Canadian Air Force established RCAF Station Uplands as a wartime training station of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in 1942. It has one ski lift—a quad chair starting in the 2012-2013 season.
