Ungen
''Ungen'' (The Child or The Kid) is a Norway, Norwegian drama film from 1938 directed by Rasmus Breistein. The lead roles are played by Eva Sletto, Harald Heide Steen, and Ragnhild Hald. It is a film adaptation of Oskar Braaten's 1911 play ''Ungen: folkeliv i fire akter'' (The Child: Everyday Life in Four Acts). A new version of the film was made in 1974 as a musical. Plot Julius and Milja are in love with each other and they also work at the same factory. Petrina, a girl from Oslo's Grønland, Oslo, Grønland neighborhood, flirts with Julius and tricks him into stealing from the factory, which causes him to be fired. A year passes, and Julius has left Milja for Petrina. Milja has had a child and during the day, when she works, she leaves the child with Hønse-Lovisa. A doctor, who has been sent out by rich people to find children to adopt, persuades Milja to give away her child. Rasmus Breistein
Rasmus Breistein (November 16, 1890 – October 16, 1976) was a Norwegian film director.Sundholm, John et al. ''Historical Dictionary of Scandinavian Cinema''. Lanham, MD: The Scarecrow Press, p. 88. Life Breistein was born in Åsane in the city of Bergen in Hordaland county, Norway. He was a farmer's son and learned to play fiddle in his youth, playing for dances at weddings in Western Norway. Later in life, in addition to directing films, he also performed on the Hardanger fiddle. When the Norwegian Theater opened in 1913, he started acting at the theater. He became engaged with the new medium of film after seeing Peter Lykke-Seest's productions, and he decided to produce films in a completely different way. Signe Ramberg
Signe Ramberg (November 4, 1900 – January 15, 1987) was a Norwegian actress. Life Signe Ramberg was born in Eidanger, Norway. She performed as a stage actress at the New Theater from 1929 to 1944, and she also appeared in five film roles between 1930 and 1944. Eva Sletto
Eva Sletto (6 September 1912 – 7 March 2006) was a Norwegian actress. She worked at Det Norske Teatret from 1936 to 1983. She is best known for her role as Milja in the film ''Ungen'' (The Baby) by Oskar Braaten in 1938, and also played Ismene in Sophocles' ''Antigone'', Titania in Shakespeare's ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' and Olga in Chekhov's '' Three Sisters''. Sletto also played in several movies in the early age of Norwegian cinema. She retired from the stage in 1983, and lived in Oslo until her death at the age of 93. Tove Bryn (a.k.a. Tove Trollstugo, November 27, 1903 – June 24, 1983) was a Norwegian actress. Astrid Sommer (née Christiansen; 21 May 1906 – 9 April 1990) was a Norwegian actress. Guri Stormoen (10 September 1901 – 1 November 1974) was a Norwegian actress. She was active both on stage and in film. Biography She was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway as a daughter of actor Harald Stormoen (1872–1937) and his first wife, theatre leader Inga Bjørnson (1871–1952). She was a half-sister of Botten Soot and half-aunt of Svend von Düring through her mother's earlier marriage to Eyolf Soot. Marie "Maja" Hedemark (March 24, 1873 – August 8, 1959) was a Norwegian actress. Family Hedemark was the daughter of the teacher Emil Bernhard Olsen (1842–1897) and Severine Mathilde Heidenstrøm. She was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. She married the actor Hans Ingi Hedemark on December 23, 1905. Oskar Braaten
Oskar Braaten (25 November 1881 – 17 July 1939) was a Norwegian novelist and playwright. Biography Oskar Alexander Braaten was born in Sagene, a borough of the city of Oslo. Sagene was one of Norway's oldest industrial areas dating to the mid-19th century. Oskar Braaten attended school in Sagene until he was 15 years old. In 1899, he was hired by antiquarian bookstore Bertrand Jensen, where he remained until 1910. Though born and raised in Oslo, Braaten joined the mostly rural landsmål-movement. Braaten is best known for his popular plays and novels depicting the life of factory workers alongside Akerselva in Oslo. He published seven novels between 1917 and 1925.
