Track Time Trial
The track time trial is a track cycling event where cyclists compete individually against the clock to record the fastest time over the specified distance from a standing start. Time trial bikes Track time trial bikes differ from normal track bikes in two major ways; firstly they have disc or 3–5 spoked wheels, and secondly they often use aero-bars to allow the rider to adopt a more aerodynamic riding position. Track Cycling
Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using purpose-designed track bicycles. History Track cycling has been around since at least 1870. When track cycling was in its infancy, it was held on velodromes similar to the ones used today. These velodromes consisted of two straights and slightly banked turns, though they varied more in length and material than the modern 250m track. One appeal of indoor track racing was that spectators could be easily controlled, and hence an entrance fee could be charged, making track racing a lucrative sport. Early track races attracted crowds of up to 2,000 people. Indoor tracks also enabled year-round cycling for the first time. Omnium
An omnium (from Latin '' Omni'': of all, belonging to all) is a multiple race event in track cycling. Historically the omnium has had a variety of formats. In recent years, road racing has also adopted the term to describe multi-day races that feature the three primary road race events (time trial, mass start and criterium). Track Time Trial At The Olympics
The track time trial is a defunct track cycling event formerly held at the Summer Olympics. The event was first held for men at the first modern Olympics in 1896. It was not held again until 1928, when it became a consistent part of the programme and was held every year from then until 2004, after which the event was eliminated. A women's version was added in 2000, being held only twice before being eliminated along with the men's event after 2004. The distance of the time trial was one kilometre for men (except 1896, when it was one-third of a kilometre) and half a kilometre for women. Sir Jason Francis Kenny, (born 23 March 1988) is an English former track cyclist, specialising in the individual and team sprints. Kenny is the holder of most Olympic gold medals (7) and medals (9) for a British athlete. His wife, Laura Kenny, holds the same records on the female side, and together they are the most successful married couple in Summer Olympic history where both spouses have won at least one gold medal (with 12 gold and 3 silver medals between them). Nicholas Paul (born 23 September 1998) is a Trinidadian track cyclist, who specializes in sprinting events. Career On 6 September 2019, Paul set a flying 200m world record of 9.100 seconds at the Elite Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Coachabamba, Bolivia. The previous record of 9.347 seconds by France's Francois Pervis had stood since 2013. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, in the quarterfinals of the sprint competition, Paul won his first ride against Denis Dmitriev (ROC) but was disqualified in the second ride for not holding his line in the final sprint. Paul went on to lose the third ride controversially when Dmitriev cut in front of him in the sprinter's lane but the appeal from the Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Committee was denied. A velodrome is an arena for track cycling. Modern velodromes feature steeply banked oval tracks, consisting of two 180-degree circular bends connected by two straights.
