A relish is a cooked and pickled product made of chopped vegetables, fruits or herbs and is a food item typically used as a condiment to enhance a staple. Mary Ann Harriet Margaret Hooper (1829–1904) was an English writer known particularly for her cookbooks, besides novels and children's books. Biography Hooper began her literary career as editor of the household section of ''Household Words'', the mid-nineteenth century magazine edited by Charles Dickens; the '' Literary Collector'' praised her management of that section and its practical content and added a distinct character to the magazine. Compote or compôte (French for ''mixture'') is a dessert originating from medieval Europe, made of whole or pieces of fruit in sugar syrup. Whole fruits are cooked in water with sugar and spices. The syrup may be seasoned with vanilla, lemon or orange peel, cinnamon sticks or powder, cloves, other spices, ground almonds, grated coconut, candied fruit or raisins. The compote is served either warm or cold. History Compote conformed to the medieval belief that fruit cooked in sugar syrup balanced the effects of humidity on the body. Tomato chutney is a type of chutney, native to the Indian subcontinent, prepared using tomatoes as the primary ingredient. The tomatoes can be diced, mashed or pulped, and additional typical ingredients used include ginger, chilli, sugar, salt, aam papad, raisin, dates and spices and additionally onion, garlic and peanut or dal for the south Indian version.
