The Reflections (Detroit Band)
The Reflections were an American blue-eyed soul/doo-wop group from Detroit, Michigan, United States. They had one hit single in 1964 called "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet", written by Bob Hamilton and Freddie Gorman. The song was produced by Rob Reeco on Golden World Records. The disc reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 record chart, chart, and number 9 on the ''Cashbox (magazine), Cash Box'' chart. The record was even more popular in rhythm and blues locations, reaching number 3 on that ''Cashbox'' chart, and was featured on ''American Bandstand'' as a "spotlight dance". A cover version by new wave music, new wave band Mental As Anything hit number 27 on the Australian charts in 1980. Blue-eyed soul (also called white soul) is rhythm and blues (R&B) and soul music performed by white artists. The term was coined in the mid-1960s, to describe white artists whose sound was similar to that of the predominantly-black Motown and Stax record labels. Though many R&B radio stations in the United States in that period would only play music by black musicians, some began to play music by white acts considered to have "soul feeling"; their music was then described as "blue-eyed soul." 1960s Georgie Woods, a Philadelphia radio DJ, is thought to have coined the term "blue-eyed soul" in 1964, initially to describe The Righteous Brothers, then white artists in general who received airplay on rhythm and blues radio stations. ''American Bandstand'', abbreviated ''AB'', is an American music-performance and dance television program that aired in various versions from 1952 to 1989, and was hosted from 1956 until its final season by Dick Clark, who also served as the program's producer. It featured teenagers dancing to Top 40 music introduced by Clark; at least one popular musical act—over the decades, running the gamut from Jerry Lee Lewis to Run–D.M.C.—usually appeared in person to lip-sync one of their latest singles. The Shades Of Blue
The Shades of Blue were an American blue-eyed soul vocal group from Livonia, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. The band started in high school as the Domingos. Original group members included Nick Marinelli, Ernie Dernai, Linda Allen and Bob Kerr. By 1965, The Domingos signed a recording contract for the Detroit-based Golden World label. John Rhys, a sound engineer, suggested a name change and the Shades of Blue was the result. Their biggest hit was the song "Oh How Happy", recorded in the fall of 1965 and released in early 1966, written by Edwin Starr, which reached number 12 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, number 16 on the US ''Billboard'' R&B chart and the Top 10 in Canada. The Flaming Ember
The Flaming Ember was an American soul band from Detroit, Michigan, United States, who found commercial success starting in the late 1960s. The group originally formed in Detroit in 1964. At that time they were known as The Flaming Embers, named for a local Detroit restaurant. In 1969, they signed with Hot Wax Records, (the label founded by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Edward Holland, Jr.), after the band had recorded for a number of smaller Detroit-area labels since 1965. They recorded for Ed Wingate's Ric Tic label in 1967, but when Berry Gordy, Jr.'s Motown Records purchased Golden Records/ Ric-Tic from Wingate, the Flaming Ember chose not to sign with Motown.
