The New Pornographers
The New Pornographers are a Canadian indie rock band, formed in 1997 in Vancouver. Presented as a musical collective of singer-songwriters and musicians from multiple projects, the band has released eight studio albums to critical acclaim for their use of multiple vocalists and elements of power pop incorporated into their music. History The New Pornographers' name was chosen by Carl Newman, who has said that he came up with it after watching a Japanese film called ''The Pornographers''. The band has released eight albums to date: ''Mass Romantic'' (2000), ''Electric Version'' (2003), ''Twin Cinema'' (2005), '' Challengers'' (2007), ''Together'' (2010), '' Brill Bruisers'' (2014), '' Whiteout Conditions'' (2017), and ''In the Morse Code of Brake Lights'' (2019). Kathryn Calder
Kathryn Jane Calder (born June 17, 1982) is a Canadian indie rock musician, who performs as a solo artist, and is a member of the bands The New Pornographers and Frontperson. She is a former member of Immaculate Machine. Calder started with The New Pornographers by filling in for Neko Case for live performances and was made a permanent member in 2006. Biography Calder is the niece of fellow The New Pornographers member Carl Newman. Calder explained in a 2007 interview: "My mom was adopted as a baby and about ten years ago she found her birth family and Carl is in her birth family. At that time I was a teenager and playing in a band and didn't really know I had that family ... so that's how I met Carl." She was a member of Immaculate Machine from 2003 to 2011, releasing three albums and an EP with that band. Electric Version
''Electric Version'' is the second studio album by Canadian indie rock group The New Pornographers. It was released on Matador Records and Mint Records on May 6, 2003. ''Electric Version'' placed at number seven in ''The Village Voice''s Pazz & Jop poll of 2003 and was ranked at number 20 on ''PopMatters'' Best Music of 2003 list. In 2009, the album ranked number 79 in ''Rolling Stones "100 Best Albums of the Decade". Mass Romantic
''Mass Romantic'' is the debut studio album by Canadian indie rock supergroup The New Pornographers. Produced by David Carswell and band bassist John Collins, it was released on Mint Records on November 28, 2000. The album was three years in the making, with musicians A.C. Newman and Dan Bejar writing songs as early as 1998. With encouragement from peers, they recorded an album with other Canadian musicians from groups including The Evaporators, Zumpano, and Destroyer. Released in 2000, the album failed to chart in Canada or the United States, but positive reviews from music media led to the group having a sold-out tour. The album was met with very positive reviews, receiving a score of 87 from Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Kurt Dahle
Kurt Colin Dahle is a Juno Award winning, Grammy nominated Canadian musician. Dahle is best known for his work as a drummer and vocalist with the rock bands Age of Electric, Limblifter, and The New Pornographers. Blaine Thurier
Blaine Thurier (born 1967) is a Canadian musician and film producer. He plays synthesizer with the Canadian indie pop supergroup The New Pornographers. His videos for The New Pornographers have been critically well received. Thurier has written and directed feature films which have been screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), South by Southwest Film Festival, Slamdance and other festivals. Simi Sernaker
Simi Sernaker, born Simantha Sernaker in 1979 and also known as Simi Stone, is the former frontwoman of the rock bands Suffrajett and The New Pornographers. Sernaker was born and raised in Woodstock, New York, by her mother Dorothy Sernaker and a Jamaican-born father, Ernest Bledsoe, whose mother traveled on the blues circuit playing piano in the south. At seven, Sernaker took up the classical violin and at ten, was admitted to The New York Conservatory for the Arts, where she studied musical theatre, dance, and voice. Dan Bejar
Daniel Bejar (; born October 4, 1972) is a Canadian singer and musician from Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the frontman of Destroyer, and is a member of indie rock band the New Pornographers. Joe Seiders
Joseph Paul Seiders (born September 5, 1980) is an American touring/session multi-instrumentalist and is the drummer and backing vocalist for The New Pornographers. Primarily a drummer, Joe also sings, plays keyboards, accordion, and guitar. Seiders was born in Winchester, Massachusetts and grew up in Derry, New Hampshire.
