The Gentle People
The Gentle People were a band formed in the United States in 1995. Their sound explored kitschy 1950s lounge and easy listening aesthetics in the context of 1990s club culture. They signed to the UK electronic label Rephlex Records in 1995 and released two albums: ''Soundtracks for Living'' (1997) and ''Simply Faboo'' (1999). Career The four members of the Gentle People variously came from the US, UK, and France, and performed under the names Dougie Dimensional, Laurie LeMans, Valentine Carnelian, and Honeymink. The group describe themselves as an "audio-visual experience" and labeled their sound "E-Z-Core." They were signed to Rephlex Records (co-run by Richard D. James a/k/a Aphex Twin), despite the group's "relaxed brand of sugar-coated, vocal-based easy listening" being quite different from the output on that electronic label. Luke Vibert (born 26 January 1973) is a British electronic musician and producer, also known for his work under several aliases such as Plug and Wagon Christ. Raised in Cornwall, Vibert began releasing projects in the 1990s across varied genres, including techno, drum and bass, and trip hop. He has recorded on labels such as Rephlex, Ninja Tune, Planet Mu, and Warp. Early years: 1990s Vibert's first musical output was in a variety of bands, including a punk act called Five Minute Fashion and later a Beastie Boys-esque group called the Hate Brothers, but he quickly moved into the low-cost environment of solo electronic composition. Fantastic Plastic Machine is the stage name of , a Japanese musician and DJ born in Kyoto, Japan. Tanaka was considered to be part of the Shibuya-kei movement. History In the late 1980s, Tanaka played as the bassist in a rock band called Margarine Strikes Back. Then in the early 1990s, Tanaka became a regular club DJ in the Kansai area, working as part of a DJ team known as Sound Impossible.
