The Dualers
The Dualers are an eight-piece (or nine-piece) ska and reggae band from South East London. Initially comprising brothers Si and Tyber Cranstoun, and now led by Tyber following Si's departure in 2010 for a solo career, they first developed a profile when the single "Kiss on the Lips" entered the UK top 30, peaking at 21, in October 2004 despite no industry backing. The Dualers have supported Madness at their large outdoor concerts and played headline gigs at Indigo O2, Fairfield Halls in Croydon and the Churchill Theatre in Bromley. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, " Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Si Cranstoun
Simon David Cranstoun (born October 1971) is a British singer who spent many years as a busker on the streets of London and performed in the Dualers, a ska band he formed with his brother Tyber, before becoming better known as a composer and singer of music influenced by 1950s and 1960s rock and roll and rhythm and blues. Life Simon Cranstoun was born in Caterham, Surrey. His father, Bill Cranstoun, promoted Jamaican music in the 1960s. Si also loved 1950s and 1960s rock and roll and R&B music. Because he knew so many songs, he was chosen as singer for his high school band. He began to write songs at the age of 16. Cranstoun and his brother Tyber formed the Dualers, a ska band. Cranstoun spent twenty years as a street busker in London, and once was given 30p by Prime Minister Tony Blair. Cranstoun met his wife, Tamu, while singing in Croydon. They have a daughter and a son. Fairfield Halls
Fairfield Halls is an arts, entertainment and conference centre in Croydon, London, England, which opened in 1962 and contains a theatre and gallery, and a large concert hall regularly used for BBC television, radio and orchestral recordings. Fairfield Halls closed for a £30 million redevelopment in 2016, and reopened in 2019. As part of the building's re-opening Talawa Theatre Company relocated to the building, taking up a 200-seat theatre space and offices. Although the venue has been a major venue for professional music, plays, musicals, stand-up comedy and classical music, a significant proportion of Fairfield's programme has been for community events. It was frequently used by local schools as the venue for their annual choral concerts, as well as being regularly used by local music, opera, amateur dramatic and religious organisations. Churchill Theatre
The Churchill Theatre in Bromley, southeast London was built by the London Borough of Bromley to designs by its borough architect's department. The Churchill is an example of a repertory theatre built in the style of European opera houses, with a large stage and sub-stage workshops. Integrated into the central library complex overlooking Church House Gardens and Library Gardens, it was built on the side of a hill, disguising the number and size of the lower levels and giving the impression of being smaller by setting the auditorium below ground level which is entered by descending staircases from the foyer.
