The Dropkick Murphys
Dropkick Murphys are an American Celtic punk band formed in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996. Singer and bassist Ken Casey has been the band's only constant member. Other current members include drummer Matt Kelly (1997– ), singer Al Barr (1998– ), guitarist James Lynch (2000– ), multi-instrumentalist Tim Brennan (2003– ) and multi-instrumentalist Jeff DaRosa (2007– ). The band was initially signed to independent punk record label Hellcat Records, releasing five albums for the label, and building a reputation locally through constant touring and yearly St. Patrick's Day week shows, held in and around Boston. The 2004 single, "Tessie" became the band's first mainstream hit and one of their biggest charting singles to date. National ShamrockFest, also commonly referred to as ''ShamrockFest'', is a one-day music festival held in Washington, D.C. to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. ShamrockFestis held in a very large, paved, parking-lot type of area at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Robert F. Marc Orrell
Marc John Orrell (born November 7, 1982) is an American guitarist known for being a former member of the Boston Celtic Punk band the Dropkick Murphys. He joined the band in 2000, he was 17 years old, while they were recording '' Sing Loud, Sing Proud'' and remained with the group until January 2008, when he left to pursue a different musical style. Orrell has played with the bands The Eleventh Hour, Gimme Danger, Far From Finished, The Black Pacific, and most recently, Wild Roses. ''Going Out in Style'' is the seventh studio album by the Dropkick Murphys and was released on March 1, 2011. It was the band's second studio release on their Born & Bred Records label. The album is the band's highest charting to date making its debut at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 200 album charts. It was also the first to feature new member Jeff DaRosa. Two singles have been released from the album including "Going Out in Style" and "Memorial Day". The first single was also made into music videos. The album was re-released on March 13, 2012 as the Fenway Park Bonus Edition. ''The Meanest of Times'' is the sixth studio album by Dropkick Murphys. It was released on September 18, 2007, by their new vanity label, Born & Bred Records, a division of Cooking Vinyl Records. Their previous albums were released by Hellcat Records. The album was the last to feature guitarist Marc Orrell, who left the band following the tour in support of the album. The picture on the album's cover was taken at Saint Brendan School in Dorchester, Massachusetts, close to Quincy, Massachusetts whence the band hails. Local kids posed in the picture. The first songs from the album were heard through the band's MySpace page starting in August 2007. The first track to appear was "(F)lannigan's Ball", which was actually a different version than what is featured on the album, as it featured vocals by Al Barr and Ken Casey rather than Ronnie Drew and Spider Stacy. "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" is a song by the Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys, with lyrics written by the folk singer Woody Guthrie. The original version of the song was released in 2004 on ''Give 'Em the Boot IV'' and was re-recorded for their certified gold selling 2005 album, ''The Warrior's Code''. The song gained worldwide attention for its use in ''The Departed'', which boosted the band's popularity. The song's lyrics describe a sailor who lost a prosthetic leg climbing the topsail, and is shipping up to Boston to "find my wooden leg."
