The Batcave
The Batcave is a subterranean location appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. It is the headquarters of the superhero Batman, whose secret identity is Bruce Wayne and his List of Batman supporting characters#Bat-Family, partners, consisting of caves beneath his personal residence, Wayne Manor. Publication history Originally, there was only a secret tunnel that ran underground between Wayne Manor and a dusty old barn where the Batmobile was kept. Later, in ''Batman (comic book), Batman'' #12 (August–September 1942), Bill Finger mentioned "secret underground hangars". In 1943, the writers of the first Batman (serial), Batman film serial, titled ''Batman'', gave Batman a complete underground crime lab and introduced it in the second chapter entitled "The Bat's Cave". ''Batman'' is an ongoing American comic book series featuring the DC Comics superhero Batman as its main protagonist. The character, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, first appeared in ''Detective Comics'' #27 (cover dated May 1939). Batman proved to be so popular that a self-titled ongoing comic book series began publication with a cover date of spring 1940. It was first advertised in early April 1940, one month after the first appearance of his new sidekick, Robin (character), Robin the Boy Wonder. Batman comics have proven to be popular since the 1940s. Though the ''Batman'' comic book was initially launched as a quarterly publication, it later became a bimonthly series through the late 1950s, after which it became a monthly publication and has remained so ever since. In September 2011, ''The New 52'' rebooted DC's continuity. In this new timeline, the original ''Batman'' series ended and was relaunched with a new first issue. Fortress Of Solitude
The Fortress of Solitude is a fictional fortress appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly in association with Superman. It is the place where Superman first learned about his true identity, heritage, and purpose on Earth. The fortress functions as a place of solace/occasional headquarters for Superman and is typically depicted as being in frozen tundra, away from civilization. Its predecessor, Superman's "Secret Citadel", first appeared in ''Superman (comic book), Superman'' #17, where it was said to be built into a mountain on the outskirts of Metropolis (comics), Metropolis. By issue #58 (May–June 1949) it is referred to as the Fortress of Solitude, seems at a glance to be a freestanding castle, and is said to be located in a "polar waste".
