The Tata family is an Indian business family, based in Mumbai, India. The parent company is Tata Sons, which is the main holding company of the Tata Group. About 65% of the stock in these companies is owned by various Tata family charitable trusts, mainly the Ratan Tata Trust and the Dorab Tata Trust. Approximately 18% of the shares are held by the Pallonji Mistry family, and the rest by various Tata sons. The Tatas are a Parsi family and originally came to Mumbai from Surat in the state of Gujarat. The founder of the family's fortune was Jamshetji Tata. Rattan, also spelled ratan, is the name for roughly 600 species of Old World climbing palms belonging to subfamily Calamoideae. Suzanne RD Tata (nee Brière, 1880–1923), also known as Sooni Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata, was the French wife of Indian businessman Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata. She is known for being the first woman in India to drive a car, in 1905. She was born in Paris. She married businessman Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata, chairman of the Tata Group, a member of the Tata family, soon after he began to learn French, and they were married in Paris in 1902. Trent Limited (portmanteau of Tata Retail Enterprise) is an Indian retail company, which is part of Tata Group and based out of Mumbai. Started in 1998, Trent operates Westside, a retail fashion chain, and Landmark, a bookstore chain with brick and mortar stores in various locations of India. History In 1998 Tata sold off their 50% stake in the cosmetic products company Lakmé to HUL for , and created Trent from the money it made through the sale.
