Adelaide Tambo
Adelaide Frances Tambo (née Tshukudu; 18 July 1929 – 31 January 2007) was a South African anti-apartheid activist, political exile, and regarded as a hero of the liberation struggle against apartheid. She was involved in South African politics for five decades and was married to the late Oliver Tambo, president of the African National Congress (ANC), from 1956 until his death in 1993. Early career Born on 18 July 1929 in Top Location as Adelaide Frances Tshukudu, she was affectionately known as ''Mama Tambo'' in South Africa. At the age of 10, following a raid by the police on a riot in Top Location a police officer was killed, and Adelaide's ailing grandfather, aged 82, was among those arrested and taken to the town square. Her grandfather collapsed and she had to sit with him until he regained consciousness. After the incident, she vowed to fight the police till the end. Tambo (Incan Structure)
A tambo (Quechua: ''tampu'', "inn") was an Incan structure built for administrative and military purposes. Found along the extensive roads, tambos typically contained supplies, served as lodging for itinerant state personnel, and were depositories of quipu-based accounting records. Individuals from nearby communities within the Inca empire were conscripted to maintain and serve in the tambos, as part of the mit'a labor system. Tambos were spaced along Incan roads, generally about one day's travel apart. Characteristics and functions The Incas built many of their tambos when they began to upgrade their empire-wide road system during the reign of Thupa Inka Yupanki from 1471 to 1493. The following are fictional characters who appeared in '' Northern Exposure'', an American television series which originally aired on CBS from July 1990 to July 1995. Main characters ; Joel Fleischman : Joel (Rob Morrow) is the central character at the beginning of the series, a young, somewhat uptight Jewish doctor from Flushing, Queens (New York City) who is contractually bound to practice in the remote Alaskan town of Cicely for four years to repay a student loan from the government. The comedy centered originally on the clash between Fleischman's petty and neurotic, almost Woody Allen-like, urban mindset and the easy-going, community-minded people around him. The minstrel show, also called minstrelsy, was an American form of racist theatrical entertainment developed in the early 19th century. Each show consisted of comic skits, variety acts, dancing, and music performances that depicted people specifically of African descent. The shows were performed by mostly white people wearing blackface make-up for the purpose of playing the role of black people. There were also some African-American performers and black-only minstrel groups that formed and toured.
