The Hectics
The Hectics (1958–1962) was an Indian school band. The members of the band were Farrokh Bulsara (later known as Freddie Mercury) (pianist), Derrick Branche (guitarist), Bruce Murray (lead vocalist and guitarist), Victory Rana (drummer) and Farang Irani (bass). The school band was formed while all five were students at St. Peter's School, Panchgani, an English boarding school in Panchgani, near Bombay (now Mumbai), India. Freddie Mercury (1946–1991) went on to become the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Derrick Branche (born 1947) went on to appear in British films such as ''My Beautiful Laundrette'' and television shows such as '' Only When I Laugh'', ''The Comic Strip Presents...'' and ''Father Ted''. Panchgani
Panchgani, called Paachgani (पाचगणी in Marathi), is a hill station and municipal council in Satara district in Maharashtra, India. Panchgani attracts tourists throughout the year. It is also known for having many residential educational institutions. Panchgani is around 108 kilometres from Pune and 250 kilometres from Mumbai. History Panchgani was developed by the British during the British Raj as a summer resort under the supervision of Lord John Chesson in the 1860s. Panchgani was developed as a retirement place because it remained pleasant throughout the year. He surveyed the hills of this region with Rustomji Dubash, and finally decided on this nameless area around the five villages: Dandeghar, Godavali, Ambral, Khingar, and Taighat. Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara; 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British singer and songwriter, who achieved worldwide fame as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. Mercury defied the conventions of a rock frontman with his theatrical style, influencing the artistic direction of Queen. Born in 1946 in Zanzibar to Parsi-Indian parents, Mercury attended English-style boarding schools in India from the age of eight and returned to Zanzibar after secondary school. Derrick Branche (born 1947) is a British actor, best known for his role in the film ''My Beautiful Laundrette'' and television roles in '' The Jewel in the Crown'' and ''Father Ted''. Early life and education Branche was born in 1947 in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, and educated at St. Peter's School, a boarding school for boys in Panchgani near Bombay. Queen (band)
Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970 by Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals) and Roger Taylor (Queen drummer), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), later joined by John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and Heavy metal music, heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock. Before forming Queen, May and Taylor had played together in the band Smile (band), Smile. ''My Beautiful Laundrette'' is a 1985 British romantic comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears from a screenplay by Hanif Kureishi. The film was also one of the first films released by Working Title Films. ''Only When I Laugh'' is a British television sitcom made by Yorkshire Television for ITV. It aired between 29 October 1979 and 16 December 1982 and was set in the ward of an NHS hospital. The title is in response to the question, "Does it hurt?". It starred James Bolam, Peter Bowles, and Christopher Strauli as patients Roy Figgis, Archie Glover, and Norman Binns. The Comic Strip are a group of British comedians who came to prominence in the 1980s. They are known for their television series ''The Comic Strip Presents...'', which was labelled as a pioneering example of the alternative comedy scene.
