The Beck Family
The Beck Family was a musical family group from Philadelphia. With their music in the disco-funk genre, they had success with their hit single, "Can't Shake the Feeling" which charted nationally in 1979, the peak of the disco era. It registered in the ''Cash Box'', ''Billboard'' and ''Record World'' charts. It also made the disco chart in Canada. They released an album which made the ''Billboard'' Soul LPs chart. They also had another single released during that time. Background The group was made up of three Beck Brothers, Anthony Beck, Mendy Beck, Tyrone Beck, their sister Joanna Beck and their cousins, Nick Mundy and Donald Wilson. Sister Sledge is an American musical vocal group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formed in 1971, the group consisted of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim, and Kathy Sledge. The siblings achieved international success at the height of the disco era. In 1979, they released their breakthrough album '' We Are Family'', which peaked at number three on the ''Billboard'' 200 and included the 1979 US top-10 singles "He's the Greatest Dancer" and " We Are Family". Sheena Shirley Easton (; born 27 April 1959) is a Scottish singer and actress. Easton came into the public eye in an episode of the first British musical reality television programme '' The Big Time: Pop Singer'', which recorded her attempts to gain a record contract and her eventual signing with EMI Records. Keith Errol Barrow (September 27, 1954 – October 22, 1983) was an American disco/soul singer and songwriter born and raised in Chicago. He was most known for being the son of civil rights activist and minister Reverend Willie Taplin Barrow. Background Early life and family Barrow was born in Chicago and had a gospel singing background. He was the only child of his civil rights and human activist mother Rev. Willie Barrow, who was known as "The High Priestess of Protest", and served the National Executive Director and chairman of the board of The Rainbow of Rev. Jesse Jackson's Push Organization/Coalition and Clyde Barrow, a welder. His mother would also become part of the gay-rights movement after Barrow revealed his sexuality to her. ''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis (Decca), Edward Lewis. Phyllis Hyman
Phyllis Linda Hyman (July 6, 1949 – June 30, 1995) was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Hyman is best known for her music during the late 1970s through the early 1990s, some of her most notable songs were "You Know How to Love Me" (1979), "Living All Alone" (1986) and " Don't Wanna Change the World" (1991). Hyman also performed on Broadway in the 1981 musical based on the music of Duke Ellington, ''Sophisticated Ladies'', which ran from 1981 until 1983.
