Bootstrapping is any test or metric that uses Sampling (statistics)#Replacement of selected units, random sampling with replacement (e.g. mimicking the sampling process), and falls under the broader class of Resampling (statistics), resampling methods. In statistics, quality assurance, and survey methodology, sampling is the selection of a subset (a statistical sample) of individuals from within a statistical population to estimate characteristics of the whole population.
