Special police usually describes a police force or unit within a police force whose duties and responsibilities are significantly different from other forces in the same country or from other police in the same force, although there is no consistent international definition. Stlʼatlʼimx Tribal Police Service
The Stlatlimx Tribal Police Service (STPS) is the police force for St'at'imc (or Stlʼatlʼimx, ) aboriginal peoples of British Columbia. The STPS is the only aboriginal police service in British Columbia. The Beijing Special Weapons and Tactics Unit ( Abbr.: SWAT; ; also known as Beijing Special Police Force or simply 'Beijing SWAT' ) is a police tactical unit in the People's Republic of China that deals with incidents beyond the capabilities of normal patrol officers such as hostage situations, high risk warrants and riot control. In the United States, a SWAT team (special weapons and tactics, originally special weapons assault team) is a police tactical unit that uses specialized or military equipment and tactics. Although they were first created in the 1960s to handle riot control or violent confrontations with criminals, the number and usage of SWAT teams increased in the 1980s and 1990s during the War on Drugs and later in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
