As of Unicode version 15.0, there are 149,186 characters with code points, covering 161 modern and historical scripts, as well as multiple symbol sets. This article includes the 1062 characters in the Multilingual European Character Set 2 (MES-2) subset, and some additional related characters. Character reference overview HTML and XML provide ways to reference Unicode characters when the characters themselves either cannot or should not be used. A ''numeric character reference'' refers to a character by its Universal Character Set/Unicode ''code point'', and a ''character entity reference'' refers to a character by a predefined name. A ''numeric character reference'' uses the format :&#''nnnn''; or :&#x''hhhh''; where ''nnnn'' is the code point in decimal form, and ''hhhh'' is the code point in hexadecimal form. CHOKING
Choking, also known as foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO), is a phenomenon that occurs when breathing is impeded by a blockage inside of the respiratory tract. An obstruction that prevents oxygen from entering the lungs results in oxygen deprivation. Although oxygen stored in the blood and lungs can keep a person alive for several minutes after breathing stops, choking often leads to death. Over 4,000 choking-related deaths occur in the United States every year. Deaths from choking most often occur in the very young (children under 2 years old) and in the elderly (adults over 75 years). Foods that can adapt their shape to that of the pharynx (such as bananas, marshmallows, or gelatinous candies) are more dangerous. Various forms of First Aid are used to address resolve choking. Choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States. Many episodes go unreported because they are brief and resolve without needing medical attention.
