The Snowboarding competition of the 2018 Winter Paralympics was held on 12 and 16 March 2018 at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre in Gangneung, South Korea. Classification Para-snowboarding is divided into three classification categories. ; SB-LL1 : Athletes competing in the class SB-LL1 have significant impairment to one leg, such as amputation above the knee, or "a significant combined impairment in two legs", affecting their balance, their board-control and their ability to navigate uneven terrain. Athletes with annotations will use prostheses during racing. ; SB-LL2 : Athletes competing in the class SB-LL2 have impairment to one or both legs "with less activity limitation", such as below-knee amputation. ; SB-UL : Athletes competing in the class SB-UL have upper limb impairments, affecting balance. Astrid Fina Paredes (born 16 October 1983 in Barcelona) is a Spanish Paralympic snowboarder. Her greatest achievement has been the silver medal of the World Cup of snowboarding. Tragedy Astrid Fina had her right foot amputated as a result of a motorcycle accident in May 2009. In 2011, she started practicing snowboarding. Renske Van Beek
Renske van Beek (born 25 April 1989) is a Dutch para-snowboarder in the SB-LL2 category. Life and career Van Beek sustained a cerebral infarction when she was ten, which left her paralyzed on one side. She started snowboarding because skiing was no longer possible. Through Bibian Mentel's Mentelity Foundation, she ended up in the U23 team of the Dutch Ski Association. At the 2021 World Para Snow Sports Championships, van Beek won the bronze medal in the women's snowboard cross event. Along with Lisa Bunschoten, she also won the silver medal in the women's team event. Michelle Salt (born March 5, 1985) is a Canadian Paralympic Snowboarder. She was in a life-threatening motorcycle accident June 27, 2011 that left her on life support for seven days, broke numerous bones, having to endure many surgeries and in the end, lost her right leg above the knee. Snowboard racing is a form of snowboarding where competitors attempt to obtain the fastest time down a course. Snowboard racing can be done against the clock, or by two or more competitors racing in a head-to-head format. The current Olympic snowboarding racing events are parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom and snowboard cross. Governing body World tour events in snowboard racing are hosted by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). The FIS currently organises both a world cup tour and a world championship for each of the Olympic snowboard racing events (parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom and snowboard cross). The International Snowboard Federation was the former governing body. The struggling International Snowboard Federation does not currently host a world tour in any snowboard racing format, but it is possible that it may host a tour for banked slalom in coming years. Lisa Bunschoten (born 23 November 1995) is a Dutch para-snowboarder. She won a silver and a bronze medal in snowboarding at the 2018 Winter Paralympics. Life and career Bunschoten was born with fibula aplasia. She competed at the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, and won the 2015/16 overall World Cup title in banked slalom.
