The Metropolis of Miletus ( el, Μητρόπολις Μιλήτου) was an ecclesiastical diocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in southwestern Asia Minor, modern Turkey. The see of Miletus is attested since the 4th century, was raised to an archbishopric by the mid-6th century, and became a metropolitan see in the 12th century. The metropolis remained active until 1369. History The see is attested since the early 4th century, when the Bishop of Miletus attended the First Council of Nicaea (325). In the 5th century it may have also been the seat of an Arian diocese. By 538, it had been raised to an autocephalous archdiocese. The Second Council of Nicaea is recognized as the last of the first seven ecumenical councils by the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church. Quinisext Council
The Quinisext Council (Latin: ''Concilium Quinisextum''; Koine Greek: , ''Penthékti Sýnodos''), i.e. the Fifth-Sixth Council, often called the Council ''in Trullo'', Trullan Council, or the Penthekte Synod, was a church council held in 692 at Constantinople under Justinian II. It is known as the "Council in Trullo" because, like the Sixth Ecumenical Council, it was held in a domed hall in the Imperial Palace (τρούλος 'troulos''meaning a cup or dome). Notitiae Episcopatuum
The ''Notitiae Episcopatuum'' (singular: ''Notitia Episcopatuum'') are official documents that furnish Eastern countries the list and hierarchical rank of the metropolitan and suffragan bishoprics of a church. In the Roman Church (the -mostly Latin Rite- 'Western Patriarchate' of Rome), archbishops and bishops were classed according to the seniority of their consecration, and in Africa according to their age. In the Eastern patriarchates, however, the hierarchical rank of each bishop was determined by the see he occupied.
