Subsonic Aircraft
A subsonic aircraft is an aircraft with a maximum speed less than the speed of sound ( Mach 1). The term technically describes an aircraft that flies below its critical Mach number, typically around Mach 0.8. All current civil aircraft, including airliners, helicopters, future passenger drones, personal air vehicles and airships, as well as many military types, are subsonic. Characteristics Although high speeds are usually desirable in an aircraft, supersonic flight requires much bigger engines, higher fuel consumption and more advanced materials than subsonic flight. A subsonic type therefore costs far less than the equivalent supersonic design, has greater range and causes less harm to the environment. The less harsh subsonic environment also allows a much wider range of aircraft types, such as balloons, airships and rotorcraft, allowing them to fill a much wider range of roles. Subsonic aerodynamics Subsonic flight is characterised aerodynamically by incompressible flow, wh ...

Subsonic Ammunition
Subsonic ammunition is ammunition designed to operate at velocities below the speed of sound, which at standard conditions is or Mach 1. This avoids the supersonic shockwave or "crack" of a supersonic bullet, which, particularly for suppressed firearms, influences the loudness of the shot. Subsonic ammunition usually uses heavier bullets to retain as much energy as possible at the lower velocities. Some subsonic ammunition is used in non-suppressed firearms to gain the advantages of heavier bullet weights. __TOC__ Standard calibers Subsonic versions of standard rounds In this instance, heavier bullets are loaded in standard ammunition, which reduces muzzle velocity below the speed of sound. As an example, the very common 9×19mm Parabellum standard military round is a bullet at velocities typically around . Subsonic loads for 9mm commonly use bullets at velocities of . For these ammunition loads, balancing bullet weight and velocity are required to ensure that the ammun ...

Subsonic Flight
Aerodynamics, from grc, ἀήρ ''aero'' (air) + grc, δυναμική (dynamics), is the study of the motion of air, particularly when affected by a solid object, such as an airplane wing. It involves topics covered in the field of fluid dynamics and its subfield of gas dynamics. The term ''aerodynamics'' is often used synonymously with gas dynamics, the difference being that "gas dynamics" applies to the study of the motion of all gases, and is not limited to air. The formal study of aerodynamics began in the modern sense in the eighteenth century, although observations of fundamental concepts such as aerodynamic drag were recorded much earlier. Most of the early efforts in aerodynamics were directed toward achieving heavier-than-air flight, which was first demonstrated by Otto Lilienthal in 1891. Since then, the use of aerodynamics through mathematical analysis, empirical approximations, wind tunnel experimentation, and computer simulations has formed a rational basis for t ...

Subsonic (EP)
''Subsonic'' is the third extended play by South Korean singer Younha. The album was released on December 6, 2013, and is her eleventh non-compilation release. Creation and promotion The mini album was part of a series of albums Younha released following a self-imposed hiatus due to panic disorder. It was also the third release following the annulment of Younha's contract with Lion Media after well-documented litigation. The tracks were all recorded and released during Younha's stint as host for MBC radio program Starry Night. It has been stated by the artist as a departure from her early career as a mainstream radio mainstay, and thematically reflects a relief from the pressure of maintaining popularity while also pursuing other genres. The album's title and subsequent songs make references to subsonic phenomena, thematically alluding to concepts of speed, movement, and time, especially in contrast to Younha's previous album Supersonic, which generally contains more guitar-drive ...

Subsonic Music Festival
Subsonic Music Festival is an annual electronic music festival held since December 2009 in a camping setting in Monkerai, Australia. It was established by Scott Commens (Sydney-based DJ), founder of Sydney based label and events organisation, Subsonic Music. ''TimeOut Sydney''s Erin Moy said genres in 2012 included "beats. From thumping four to the floor and tummy-rumbling bass," including dub, techno and hip hop. Pulse Radio in Australia gave the 2012 event a positive review. Among the artists that have performed are DJ Kentaro James Holden, Factory Floor, and Mike Huckaby. In 2014 it took place at Riverwood Downs Mountain Valley Resort.Subsonic

Subsonic And Transonic Wind Tunnel
Low subsonic tunnel Low-speed wind tunnels are used for operations at very low Mach number, with speeds in the test section up to 480 km/h (~ 134 m/s, M = 0.4). They may be of open-return type (also known as the Eiffel type, see figure), or closed-return flow (also known as the Prandtl type, see figure) with air moved by a propulsion system usually consisting of large axial fans that increase the dynamic pressure to overcome the viscous losses. Open wind tunnel The working principle is based on the continuity and Bernoulli's equation: The continuity equation is given by: A V = constant \Rightarrow \frac=-\frac The Bernoulli equation states:- P_=P_ + P_ = P_s + \frac\rho V^2 Putting Bernoulli into the continuity equation gives: V_m^2=2 \frac \frac \approx 2 \frac The contraction ratio of a windtunnel can now be calculated by: C = \frac Closed wind tunnel In a return-flow wind tunnel the return duct must be properly designed to reduce the pressure losses and to en ...

Speed Of Sound
The speed of sound is the distance travelled per unit of time by a sound wave as it propagates through an elastic medium. At , the speed of sound in air is about , or one kilometre in or one mile in . It depends strongly on temperature as well as the medium through which a sound wave is propagating. At , the speed of sound in air is about . The speed of sound in an ideal gas depends only on its temperature and composition. The speed has a weak dependence on frequency and pressure in ordinary air, deviating slightly from ideal behavior. In colloquial speech, ''speed of sound'' refers to the speed of sound waves in air. However, the speed of sound varies from substance to substance: typically, sound travels most slowly in gases, faster in liquids, and fastest in solids. For example, while sound travels at in air, it travels at in water (almost 4.3 times as fast) and at in iron (almost 15 times as fast). In an exceptionally stiff material such as diamond, sound travels a ...

Subsonic (album)
''Subsonic'' (released January 1, 2002 by the label Curling Legs - CLPCD 71) is a studio album by Vigleik Storaas Trio. Critical reception Storaas returns with a new trio recording, backed by Johannes Eick (double bass) and Per Oddvar Johansen (drums). The setting is ideal for a solo excursions by Storaas and the near telepathic interplay with his trio. The material on ''Subsonic'' is mostly composed by Storaas and represents a distinct stylistic foil for the trio’s exploration of the modern piano trio’s format. The legacy of Bill Evans is evident throughout the album, but still the trio displays vast amounts of its own identity and character. Introspective and searching at times, but also balanced and sometimes loose in its form, ''Subsonic'' vas nominated for Spellemannprisen 2002.
