Disambiguation Dos And Don'ts
Word-sense disambiguation (WSD) is the process of identifying which word sense, sense of a word is meant in a sentence (linguistics), sentence or other segment of context (language use), context. In human language processing in the brain, language processing and cognition, it is usually subconscious/automatic but can often come to consciousness, conscious attention when ambiguity impairs clarity of communication, given the pervasive polysemy in natural language. In computational linguistics, it is an open problem that affects other computer-related writing, such as discourse, improving relevance of search engines, anaphora resolution, coherence (linguistics), coherence, and inference. Given that natural language requires reflection of neurological reality, as shaped by the abilities provided by the brain's biological neural network, neural networks, computer science has had a long-term challenge in developing the ability in computers to do natural language processing and machine ...

Speech Transmission Index
Speech Transmission Index (STI) is a measure of speech transmission quality. The absolute measurement of speech intelligibility is a complex science. The STI measures some physical characteristics of a transmission channel (a room, electro-acoustic equipment, telephone line, etc.), and expresses the ability of the channel to carry across the characteristics of a speech signal. STI is a well-established objective measurement predictor of how the characteristics of the transmission channel affect speech intelligibility. The influence that a transmission channel has on speech intelligibility is dependent on: * the speech level * frequency response of the channel * non-linear distortions * background noise level * quality of the sound reproduction equipment * echos ( reflections with delay > 100ms) * the reverberation time * psychoacoustic effects (masking effects) History The STI was introduced by Tammo Houtgast and Herman Steeneken in 1971, and was accepted by Acoustical Society ...

Sega Technical Institute
Sega Technical Institute (STI) was an American video game developer owned by Sega. Founded by the Atari veteran Mark Cerny in 1990, STI sought to combine elite Japanese developers, including the Sonic Team programmer Yuji Naka and his team, with new American talent. STI developed games for Sega Genesis, including several ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' games, before it was closed at the end of 1996. After working in Japan for Sega on games for the Master System, Cerny proposed the creation of a development studio in America, which was approved. When Naka quit Sega after the release of ''Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 video game), Sonic the Hedgehog'', Cerny convinced him to join STI. After completing ''Sonic the Hedgehog 2'' in 1992, STI was divided in two due to friction between the Japanese and American developers: the Japanese developed ''Sonic the Hedgehog 3'' and ''Sonic & Knuckles'' before leaving in 1994, while the Americans developed games including ''Sonic Spinball''. Cell (microprocessor)
Cell is a multi-core microprocessor microarchitecture that combines a general-purpose PowerPC core of modest performance with streamlined coprocessing elements which greatly accelerate multimedia and vector processing applications, as well as many other forms of dedicated computation. It was developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM, an alliance known as "STI". The architectural design and first implementation were carried out at the STI Design Center in Austin, Texas over a four-year period beginning March 2001 on a budget reported by Sony as approaching US$400 million. Cell is shorthand for Cell Broadband Engine Architecture, commonly abbreviated ''CBEA'' in full or ''Cell BE'' in part. The first major commercial application of Cell was in Sony's PlayStation 3 game console, released in 2006. In May 2008, the Cell-based IBM Roadrunner supercomputer became the first TOP500 LINPACK sustained 1.0 petaflops system. Mercury Computer Systems also developed designs based on the Cell. The ...
