John Edmond Sparling (June 21, 1916 – February 15, 1997), was a Canadian comics artist. Biography Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sparling moved to the United States as a child. He received his early arts training at the Arts and Crafts Club in New Orleans and later attended the Corcoran School of Art. He worked briefly as a gag cartoonist for the ''New Orleans Item-Tribune''. Chris Sparling (born March 21, 1977) is an American filmmaker from Providence, Rhode Island. Career Upon graduating from Roger Williams University and Bridgewater State University with degrees in Criminal Justice, and after writing, directing, and producing several low-budget independent films, Sparling found mainstream success when his feature length screenplay ''Buried'' was purchased by producer Peter Safran. Spanish director Rodrigo Cortés and actor Ryan Reynolds worked on the project. The film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival to high critical praise and was eventually sold to Lionsgate Films. After later playing additional film festivals worldwide—including the Toronto International Film Festival, as well as winning the Méliès d'Or Award at the Sitges Film Festival—it received a limited theatrical release in September 2010, earning over $18 million worldwide. Gordon Sparling
Gordon Sparling (1900-1994) was a pioneering Canadian film maker. He was educated at Trinity College in the University of Toronto. He directed such early Canadian films as '' The Tidy House (La maison en ordre)'' in 1936 and '' The Kinsmen'' in 1938. Along with such films, Sparling directed film shorts as ''Pleasure Island (''1936) that promoted Canada's largest and most luxurious summer resort, Bigwin Inn, on Bigwin Island, Ontario. Gordon Sparling's start with the Ontario Motion Picture Bureau in 1924, led to a 40-year career with the Canadian Government Motion Picture Bureau and Associated Screen News of Canada (ASN). John Sparling
John Trevor Sparling (born 24 July 1938) is a former New Zealand cricketer who played in 11 Test matches between 1958 and 1964. Domestic career A stocky, fair-haired, off-spinning all-rounder, Sparling was educated at Auckland Grammar School. Coached in Auckland by Jim Laker, he broke into the Auckland team at the age of 18. He continued to play for Auckland until 1970–71. He captained Auckland through most of the 1960s, leading the team to two Plunket Shield titles. His most successful season with the bat was 1959–60, when he made 705 runs at an average of 37.10. In the Plunket Shield match against Canterbury that season he scored 105 and 51 and took 7 for 98 and 2 for 13. His most successful season with the ball was 1964–65, when he took 38 wickets at an average of 15.50. His career-best figures that year, 7 for 49 for Auckland against Otago, took Auckland to a narrow victory.
