Soma Quality Recordings (or simply Soma Records) is an independent record label based in Glasgow, Scotland. It was co-founded in 1991 by the electronic music duo Slam, Dave Clarke and Glenn Gibbons. The Soma Festival ( sa, सोम, or ''sóma'', meaning ''drink of the Gods'', see Soma (drink); ) is an annual music, arts, and cultural festival. The festival includes concerts, musical performances, well-being activities, art exhibitions and stalls, language events, celebrations of food and drink, music workshops, and pub sessions. The festival began in 2013 and takes place in Castlewellan, County Down in Northern Ireland. The festival is directed by Belfast-born singer Tíona McSherry and run by a team of volunteers. Everyone's Invited is an anti-rape movement organisation based in the United Kingdom, focused on exposing rape culture through "conversation, education and support." Soma ( km, សោមា, ) was the ruler of the Kingdom of Funan and widely claimed as the first monarch of Cambodia (reigned c. 1st century). She was also the first female leader of Cambodia. She was the consort of Kaundinya I (also known as "Huntien" and "Preah Thong"). She is known as Soma (Indian), Liǔyè (Chinese), Liễu Diệp (Vietnamese) and Neang Neak (Khmer). Soma (band)
Soma is the dark ambient and techno musical project of Australian composers David Thrussell and Pieter Bourke. The collaboration began in 1993 when Thrussell approached Bourke about the possibility of remixing Eden tracks. The Eden remixing sessions yielded the first Soma compositions. Soma developed into a full-time project when Bourke moved in with Thrussell after a fire had destroyed his flat, allowing the two more time to work together. Leela Soma is a Scottish-based writer who was born in Madras (former name for Chennai) in India, and now lives in Glasgow. Biography Leela Soma came to Glasgow in 1969 with her husband. She worked, until her retirement, as a teacher of Modern Studies. During this time she took up creative writing under the tutelage of Laura Marney. She followed this with Creative Writing Classes in the Department of Adult and Continuing Education at the University of Glasgow. "Soma", originally called "Coma", is a track on the album ''Siamese Dream'' by the Smashing Pumpkins. Overview The song-writing credits list James Iha and Billy Corgan as co-authors, but Corgan claims that Iha only wrote the chord structure for the beginning of the song, and that Corgan himself wrote the rest. The song is said to have included up to 40 overdubbed guitar tracks. Corgan says the song "is based on the idea that a love relationship is almost the same as opium: it slowly puts you to sleep, it soothes you, and gives you the illusion of sureness and security." It was also acknowledged that song was inspired by Corgan's break-up with his ex-wife, Chris Fabian. SOMA Fabrications is a designer and importer of bicycles, frames, parts and accessories based in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was established in 2001 and owned by bicycle parts wholesaler The Merry Sales Co. The SOMA Fabrications brand came about when Bradley Woehl, owner of American Cyclery bicycle shop asked Jim Porter, President of The Merry Sales Co. if he could uses his sources in Taiwan to produce a line of chromoly steel bicycle frames.
