Sketch Comedy
Sketch comedy comprises a series of short, amusing scenes or vignettes, called "sketches", commonly between one and ten minutes long, performed by a group of comic actors or comedians. The form developed and became popular in vaudeville, and is used widely in variety shows, comedy talk shows, and some sitcoms and children's television series. The sketches may be improvised live by the performers, developed through improvisation before public performance, or scripted and rehearsed in advance like a play. Sketch comedians routinely differentiate their work from a "skit", maintaining that a skit is a (single) dramatized joke (or "bit") while a sketch is a comedic exploration of a concept, character, or situation. definition 3b, Merriam-Webster online. Nightmares can have physical causes such as sleeping in an uncomfortable position or having a fever, or psychological causes such as stress or anxiety. Eating before going to sleep, which triggers an increase in the body's metabolism and brain activity, can be a potential stimulus for nightmares. The Family (sketch)
"The Family" is a series of comedy sketches featured on ''The Carol Burnett Show'', with one and final installment airing on ''Carol Burnett & Company''. ''The Carol Burnett Show'' introduced the skit starting in the 1973-1974 season. Overall, it would air new installments of the skit for the last five seasons of its total 11-season run; the skit aired between the 1973-1974 season to the 1977-1978 season on the show. However, the final installment of "The Family" would not air until September 8, 1979 on an entirely different four-week summer series entitled ''Carol Burnett & Company''. The Fast Show
''The Fast Show'', known as ''Brilliant'' in the US, is a BBC comedy sketch show that ran from 1994 to 1997, with specials in 2000 and 2014. The show's central performers were Paul Whitehouse, Charlie Higson, Simon Day, Mark Williams (actor), Mark Williams, John Thomson (comedian), John Thomson, Arabella Weir and Caroline Aherne. Other significant cast members included Felix Dexter, Paul Shearer, Rhys Thomas (comedian), Rhys Thomas, Jeff Harding (actor), Jeff Harding, Maria McErlane, Eryl Maynard, Colin McFarlane and Donna Ewin. Loosely structured and reliant on character sketches, running gags and many catchphrases, its fast-paced "blackout gag, blackout" style set it apart from traditional sketch series because of the number and relative brevity of its sketches; a typical half-hour TV sketch comedy of the period might have consisted of nine or ten major items, with contrived situations and extended setups, whereas the premiere episode featured 27 sketches in 30 minutes,Dewhurs ... Gumbys
Very few characters of the BBC television series ''Monty Python's Flying Circus'' appeared in more than one episode, and when they did, it was usually to link sketches together. A few well-known characters are described below. "It's" man Played by Michael Palin. Dressed in rags, and sporting a long beard, much like an island castaway, this character would start most of the early shows by struggling to cross a landscape of dangers until he got close enough to the camera to say "It's—", immediately followed by the opening credits and musical theme. In one episode, the character had his own talk show, featuring Ringo Starr and Lulu as guests, but was unable to get past his single word catch phrase before being interrupted by Monty Python's opening theme music. At the end of the program he is usually forced to go back across the same dangerous landscape. Announcer Played by John Cleese. Often found in a farmer's field, or the back of a moving truck, this character was a BBC Annou ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

El Chapulín Colorado
''El Chapulín Colorado'' (English: ''The Red Grasshopper'') is a Mexican television comedy series that ran from 1973 to 1979 and parodied superhero shows. It was created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños ( Chespirito), who also played the main character. It was first aired by Televisa in 1973 in Mexico, and then was aired across Latin America and Spain until 1981, alongside ''El Chavo del Ocho'', which shared the same cast of actors. Although the series has a regular cast, all actors but Gómez Bolaños play different characters each episode, and it is therefore described as an anthology series. Overview "Chapulín Colorado" translates literally in English as "The Red Grasshopper" or "The Cherry Cricket" (the word '' chapulín'' is of Nahuatl origin and applies to a Mexican species of grasshopper, while ''colorado'' means "red".). Chespirito (TV Series)
''Chespirito'' is a Mexican sketch comedy show created by and starring comedian and actor Roberto Gomez Bolaños, whose nickname gave the show its title. Two series were produced with the same title. The first premiered as ''Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada'' on Televisión Independiente de México on October 15, 1970, after a two-year span of this sketch being part of the ''Sábados de la Fortuna/Sábados con Neftalí/Carrousel con Neftalí'' show (hosted by Neftalí Lopez Paez), aired in the same channel, since October 1968, during the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City; the independent series adopted the ''Chespirito y La Mesa Cuadrada'' and later the ''Chespirito'' title in 1971, and aired until February 1973. A Bit Of Fry And Laurie
''A Bit of Fry & Laurie'' is a British sketch comedy television series written by and starring former Cambridge Footlights members Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, broadcast on both BBC1 and BBC2 between 1989 and 1995. It ran for four series and totalled 26 episodes, including a 36-minute pilot episode in 1987. As in ''The Two Ronnies'', elaborate wordplay and innuendo were staples of its material. It frequently broke the fourth wall; characters would revert into their real-life actors mid-sketch, or the camera would often pan off set into the studio. In addition, the show was punctuated with non sequitur vox pops in a similar style to those of '' Monty Python's Flying Circus'', often making irrelevant statements, heavily based on wordplay. Laurie was also seen playing piano and a wide variety of other instruments and singing comical numbers. Broadcast details The 36-minute pilot was broadcast on BBC1 at 11:55pm on Boxing Day 1987, although it was later edited down to 29 m ...
