A skate contest or skateboarding contest or skateboarding competition is a competition between people skateboarding, usually on a designated course or ramp, typically decided by judges' scoring. History The first skate contest took place in 1973 in Hermosa Beach, California, sponsored by Makaha and held at the Pier Avenue Junior High School. In April 26 & 27, 1975, The Zephyr Boys impress the crowd at the Bahne-Cadillac National Championships held as part of the Del Mar Ocean Festival. Coverage from this skate contest propelled the Z-Boys as first skate celebrities. The unique and aggressive style of the Z-Boys caused a major sensation and controversy at the competition. Hermosa Beach, California
Hermosa Beach (''Hermosa'', Spanish for "Beautiful") is a beachfront city in Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California, United States. Its population was 19,728 at the 2020 U.S. Census. The city is located in the South Bay region of the Greater Los Angeles area; it is one of the three Beach Cities. The Zephyr Competition Team (or Z-Boys) were a group of American skateboarders in the mid-1970s from Santa Monica and Venice, California. Originally consisting of 12 members, the Z-boys were originally sponsored by the Jeff Ho Surfboards and Zephyr Productions surf and skate shop. Their innovative surfing-based style and aerial moves formed the foundations of contemporary vert and transition skateboarding. The story of the Z-Boys and the Zephyr shop have been popularized in feature films such as ''Lords of Dogtown'' and ''Dogtown and Z-Boys.'' Del Mar Skate Ranch
The Del Mar Skate Ranch, also known as the DMSR, was an American skatepark in Del Mar, California, which opened August 1978 and was demolished July 1987. History DMSR was designed by IPS (Inouye’s Pool Service) staffers Tom Inouye, Chris Strople and Curtis Hesselgrave; however, the actual construction of the skatepark was farmed out to the lowest bidding contractor. The park was built in 1978 and was the gathering point for many influential skaters. Tommy Guerrero (born September 9, 1966) is an Indigenous American musician, composer, and professional skateboarder. Early life Guerrero was born in San Francisco, California. He is of Ohlone-native, Chilean, and Filipino descent from his father's side. Career Skateboarding As a teenager, Guerrero was one of the prominent members of the Bones Brigade, Powell Peralta's professional skateboarding team that was successful during the 1980s. Mike Vallely ( ), also known as Mike V, is an American professional skateboarder and musician. Since November 2013, he has been the lead vocalist of hardcore punk band Black Flag. Vallely is the second-longest-serving member of the band, although he has not appeared on any albums. Early life Vallely grew up in Edison, New Jersey. He has an older brother, Joe, and a younger sister, Amy. Growing up, Vallely played little league baseball, but, in 1984, aged 14, Vallely discovered skateboarding and punk music, borrowed a skateboard from a friend and proceeded to dedicate his life to skateboarding. The X Games are an annual extreme sports event organized, produced and broadcast by ESPN. Coverage is also shown on ESPN's sister network, ABC. Street League Skateboarding (SLS) is an international skateboarding tournament series. The league features professional street skateboarders competing for the largest monetary prize in the history of skateboarding, and was founded by professional skateboarder and entrepreneur Rob Dyrdek. Thrill One Sports and Entertainment currently owns Street League Skateboarding, with the SLS brand sitting alongside Nitro Circus, Superjacket Productions (producers of Ridiculousness, Dude Perfect Show, Deliciousness, The Explosion Show and Crashletes) and Nitro Rallycross. Skateboarding at the 2020 Summer Olympics was an event held in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. It was the debut appearance of skateboarding at the Summer Olympics.
