Rugby union in Norway is a minor but growing sport. Rugby World Cup
The Rugby World Cup is a men's rugby union tournament contested every four years between the top international teams. The tournament is administered by World Rugby, the sport's international governing body. The winners are awarded the Webb Ellis Cup, named after William Webb Ellis, who according to a popular legend, invented rugby by picking up the ball during a football game. The tournament was first held in 1987 and was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. Four countries have won the trophy; New Zealand and South Africa three times, Australia twice, and England once. South Africa is the current champion, having defeated England in the 2019 tournament final. Leeds Tykes (formerly Leeds RUFC, Leeds Carnegie and Yorkshire Carnegie) is an English rugby union club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, playing in the National League 1. The club was founded as Headingley FC, but renamed in 1991 when it joined with Roundhay RUFC to form Leeds RUFC. In 1998, the club merged with Leeds Rhinos to form Leeds Rugby Limited, also known as Leeds Tykes. Erik Lund (born 3 July 1979, Fredrikstad, Norway) is a former Norwegian rugby union footballer who played lock forward for Norway and since 2010 for the French team Biarritz, where he joined his younger brother Magnus. He formerly captained Leeds Carnegie. The son of Norwegian basketball international Morten Lund, his family moved to England when he was 6 months old, where future England flanker Magnus was born. Erik Lund played for the Jesmond Jaguars and a small number of games for Medicals RFC while he was at the University of Newcastle. The Latvia national rugby union team represents Latvia at the sport of rugby union. They are governed by the Latvijas Regbija federācija and have been playing international rugby since the early 1990s. They have played most of their games in the Daugava Stadium in Riga.
