Rien Poortvliet
Rien Poortvliet (; 7 August 1932 – 15 September 1995) was a Dutch artist and illustrator. Born in Schiedam, Poortvliet was best known for his drawings of animals and for "Gnomes", a famous series of illustrated books with text by Wil Huygen. Poortvliet did not attend art school and his family discouraged him from becoming an artist: `My family thought that artists were, you know, a little bit dangerous, all those naked women, all that drinking all night." Instead, Poortvliet's father wanted him pursue a profession that would produce a stable income, so Poortvliet began a career in advertising, initially drawing scenes of families for soap companies. Poortvliet took more pleasure in the work he did on the side for several publishers. He illustrated various books, among them works by Jaap ter Haar, and Godfried Bomans. Marinus Van IJzendoorn
Marinus H. "Rien" van IJzendoorn (May 14, 1952) is professor of human development and one of the co-leaders of Generation R at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. His work has focussed on the social, psychological, and neurobiological determinants of parenting and child development, with special emphasis on attachment, emotion regulation, differential susceptibility hypothesis, and child maltreatment. Biography In 1976, van IJzendoorn graduated cum laude at the University of Amsterdam. Two years later he obtained his PhD magna cum laude at the Free University of Berlin/Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Education. After this he continued his work at Leiden University. Rien Van Der Velde
Rink "Rien" van der Velde (born 21 February 1957) is a Dutch politician. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands for the Labour Party between 25 October 2016 and 23 March 2017. He entered the House as a temporary replacement of Sjoera Dikkers. On 14 December 2016 he became a permanent member of the House when he took the place of the resigned parliamentary group leader Diederik Samsom. He has served in the municipal council of Noordoostpolder since 2010. He serves as council leader of the combination Labour Party/GreenLeft. Rien, Netherlands
Rien is a village in Súdwest-Fryslân municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 110 in January 2017. History The village was first mentioned in 1527 as Reensterzyl, and means "water border". Rien started as a satellite of Lytsewierrum near a sluice. Rien was home to 321 people in 1840. Rien Long
Rien Michael Long (born August 7, 1981) is a former American college and professional American football, football player who was a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for three seasons during the early 2000s. He played college football for Washington State University, earned All-American honors, and was recognized as the top college interior lineman. The Tennessee Titans chose him in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft, and he played for the Titans until his pro career was cut short by injuries. Marinus Adriaan "Rien" Kaashoek (born 10 November 1937) is a Dutch mathematician, and Emeritus Professor Analysis and Operator Theory at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
