John Rumney Remer (2 July 1883 – 12 March 1948) was a British Conservative Party politician. Otto Ernst Remer (18 August 1912 – 4 October 1997) was a German ''Wehrmacht'' officer in World War II who played a major role in stopping the 20 July plot in 1944 against Adolf Hitler. In his later years he became a politician and far right activist. He co-founded the Socialist Reich Party in West Germany in the 1950s and is considered an influential figure in post-war neo-fascist politics in Germany.Atkins 2004, pp. 273–274. Early in his athletic career, he competed as a member of the Irish American Athletic Club. A remèr (Venetian dialect, plural ''remèri'') is a craftsman specialised in the making of traditional rowlocks – called fórcolas – and oars for Venetian boats. History In September 1307, the Venetian government recognised the first ''Mariégola dei Remèri'', or corporations of specialised craftmen. Remèri were included among the "Arts" corporations, each of which had a school and a governing statute, and together formed the core of Venetian productive power. They were divided between those working for the navy inside the Arsenale and those with independent workshops, crafting oars and rowlocks for smaller ships. Traces of these workshops can still be found today in the street names such as "del Remèr" (Remer's street). Remeri began their trade as a ''servente'' (apprentice, or, more literally, "servant"). Remer, Minnesota
Remer is a city in Cass County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 370 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Brainerd Micropolitan Statistical Area. Minnesota State Highways 6 and 200 are two of the main arterial routes in the community. History A post office called Remer has been in operation since 1904. The city was named for its first postmaster, William P. Remer. Remer is also the location of the Thunder Lake Lodge, where Al Capone stayed on his vacations to Minnesota. The room he stayed in was named McCleary Cabin, which was originally built in 1912. In 2009, a motion-activated camera captured a picture of what some consider Bigfoot in an area near Remer. Late in World War II, a logging camp manned by prisoners of war was at the site of an old CCC camp near Remer. Up until 1959, the Soo Line provided passenger rail service at Remer station.
